In recent years, Vietnamese football teams have achieved many successes in continental and regional arenas. Most recently, U23 Vietnam won the 2023 AFC U23 Championship.
To achieve such success, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has worked hard to nurture the foundation of the teams, the core of which is the systematic and high-quality operation of professional and non-professional tournaments.
The system of non-professional football tournaments including the National Championship (VĐQG) for women, First Division, Second Division, Third Division and youth tournaments U21, U19, U17, U15, U13, U11, U9... are maintained stably, arranged in accordance with the plan to concentrate the national teams to form a continuous competition program every year, helping to create favorable conditions for player selection.
In addition, VFF has done a good job of hosting and organizing many friendly matches and qualifying rounds of AFC tournaments, thereby creating favorable conditions for national youth teams to compete for places in the finals of Asian tournaments.
Meanwhile, professional football tournaments are being conducted and implemented synchronously in a safe, flexible and appropriate manner to actual conditions. Professional quality is increasingly improved, with many exciting matches.
Compared to non-professional tournaments, professional tournaments are the direct training environment for national teams, and are the basis for the coaching board to select personnel for training sessions.
In fact, in the most recent gatherings of the national team, Coach Troussier has given opportunities to many names with high performance in the V-League, even the First Division. This further motivates the players to be determined to play well for their clubs.
From the 2023 season, VPF and FPT officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement, with the goal of gradually raising the level of Vietnamese football to international standards; promoting image development, commercial exploitation of national professional football tournaments on multiple platforms, creating favorable conditions for tournaments to develop;
In addition, with the initiative, determination to implement, and the coordination of VFF, VPF Company has called for financial resources to invest in the first 2 VAR vehicles.
In addition, after 3 training sessions, 18 Vietnamese referees and assistant referees were confirmed by FIFA to have completed the training course, meeting the requirements of FIFA's VAR referee standards.
On July 27, 2023, VAR technology was officially applied for the first time in the match between Viettel Club and Hong Linh Ha Tinh Club in round 3, phase 2 of the 2023 National Championship. In the 2023 season, a total of 5 matches were applied with VAR technology.
This is a new milestone for Vietnamese football in the trend of integration and professional development following other countries in the world, practically supporting the referee's management work, improving the quality of the tournament, contributing to supporting referees and minimizing referee errors.
