UNICEF supports plastic water tanks for Cao Bang province

Specifically, the sponsor has supported 850 plastic water tanks for the two provinces of Lang Son and Cao Bang worth about 1.8 billion VND, of which Cao Bang province has 456 tanks to support affected areas, poor communes, and many ethnic minorities; focusing on supporting affected households, households lacking clean water, families with young children, female-headed households, ethnic minority households and distributing to schools and health stations.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, due to the severe damage caused by storm No. 3 (Yagi), the northern mountainous provinces are suffering a lot of damage and are heavily affected. In order to promptly support people in the affected areas, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has connected and worked with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to help people in the affected areas overcome difficulties.

Mr. Maharajan Muthu - Head of Child Survival and Development Program, UNICEF Viet Nam said that within the framework of cooperation between the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, UNICEF has provided a lot of support in the development, building sustainable new rural areas and preventing and combating natural disasters. These include activities such as supporting water tanks for people in the Mekong Delta affected by drought and saltwater intrusion in 2019 - 2020 or supporting water purifiers for the three provinces of Ca Mau, Soc Trang, and Bac Lieu to respond to drought and saltwater intrusion in 2023. In 2024, UNICEF will continue to provide support through the purchase of plastic water tanks to distribute to areas affected by natural disasters.

Cao Bang is one of the localities that suffered heavy damage from the recent storm No. 3. As of September 16, Cao Bang has recorded about 55 deaths, 2 missing people, many areas have been damaged by landslides, traffic is cut off... UNICEF's timely support will help people store water for daily use when natural disasters occur.
