Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tu, Cay Thi village, Hop Thanh commune, Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province takes care of Huong Cay and Moc Cay.

Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP, dated January 22, 2019 of the Government on the management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has cut 16 administrative procedures, creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals to raise, grow, process, trade, import and export wild animals and plants conveniently and in accordance with the provisions of law.

According to the report of the Forest Protection Department of Tuyen Quang province, the whole province has 244 facilities raising endangered, precious and rare forest animals listed in the CITES Appendix and common forest animals, of which: 165 facilities raising/42,323 individuals raising endangered, precious and rare forest animals listed in the CITES Appendix including palm civet, palm civet, Chinese cobra, monocled cobra, rat snake and 79 facilities raising/5,060 individuals of common forest animals including bamboo rats, porcupines, Don... Raising has contributed to creating livelihoods, improving income and somewhat limiting the exploitation, hunting and use of wild animals from the wild.

Seeing the multifaceted benefits of raising wild animals, in recent years, authorities at all levels and forest rangers of Tuyen Quang province have guided people to develop wild animal breeding, carry out procedures to grant breeding facility codes (ensuring the legal origin of wild animals, barns are built in accordance with the characteristics of the species, ensuring safety conditions for people and animals, environmental sanitation, disease prevention according to the provisions of law...).

It can be seen that the granting of codes for wildlife breeding facilities, in addition to the effectiveness of limiting hunting in the wild, has also led to the emergence of many large-scale wildlife breeding models in the province, bringing high economic efficiency. Typically, the breeding model of Mr. Vu Dinh Son, An Thinh village, Tan An commune, Chiem Hoa district; the model of Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tu's family, Cay Thi village, Hop Thanh commune, Son Duong district.

The delegation visited the legal wildlife breeding facility at Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tu's family, Cay Thi village, Hop Thanh commune, Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province.

According to the livestock model of Mr. Vu Dinh Son, An Thinh village, Tan An commune, Chiem Hoa district, Mr. Son's family is currently raising 120 civets, Moc plows and 60 Dao-cheeked bamboo rats.

Mr. Vu Dinh Son said: Realizing the outstanding advantages of the peach-cheeked bamboo rat, such as easy adaptation to the environment, fast growth, low care requirements but high economic value, large market demand. Therefore, after a period of experimental breeding, realizing that raising bamboo rats brings high economic efficiency, our family decided to focus on developing and expanding the model.

As for Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tu's family, Cay Thi village, Hop Thanh commune, Son Duong district, Mr. Tu's farm is currently raising 20 peach-cheeked bamboo rats and 200 individuals of Huong and Moc bamboo rats on an area of 450m2. Mr. Tu confided: The model of raising Peach-cheeked Bamboo Rats and Huong Bamboo Rats brings a better income than raising other common livestock because the breeding process does not take much time and effort. Currently, Huong and Moc bamboo rats are being sold for 2,200,000-2,300,000 VND/kg and the price of Peach-cheeked Bamboo Rats is about 1,200,000 VND/kg, which is a fairly high income compared to rural life.

Therefore, after a period of hard work under the dedicated guidance of the relevant authorities, my family's model is now growing and generating good income.

Mr. Ly Xuan Binh, Head of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Forest Protection Department, affirmed: In order to manage wildlife captivity activities in accordance with regulations, the Provincial Forest Protection Department has directed the forest rangers to closely coordinate with local authorities and functional agencies to strengthen inspection and guidance on wildlife breeding activities in the management area.

In addition, the unit also coordinates with relevant agencies to revoke the breeding facility code or suspend operations when they do not meet the conditions prescribed by law. Regularly inspect key areas for hunting, capturing, trading, and consuming wild animals to prevent illegal hunting, capturing, buying, selling, transporting, raising, confining, storing, and processing; organize the destruction of wild animal trading venues and strictly handle violations of the law.
