Turkmenistan Airlines flight T5-655 from Ashgabat (Capital of Turkmenistan) landed at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) at 1:30 a.m. on March 6, after nearly 10 hours of flight.
This is the first regular direct flight on the Vietnam - Turkmenistan route operated by Turkmenistan National Airlines. This non-stop flight, more than 5,000 km long, uses a wide-body Boeing 777.
The plane took off from Ashgabat Airport at 3:30 p.m. on March 5 and landed at Tan Son Nhat Airport at 1:30 a.m. on March 6. Turkmenistan Airlines will operate two flights per week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from March 5 to October 27. Round-trip economy class tickets cost around $500 (VND12 million).

Before opening commercial flights, in 2022, this airline will operate cargo flights to Vietnam for the first time using Airbus-330-200P2F. By 2023, Turkmenistan Airlines will operate an additional weekly cargo flight to Hanoi.
Mr. Toyli Sakhadov - senior leader of Turkmenistan Airlines positioned Vietnam as a potential market since 2014. By 2022, the airline had signed a contract to purchase two new passenger aircraft, Boeing-777-300ER with a capacity of 368 seats, to prepare for direct flights to the Southeast Asian country.

Sharing about the new journey, Mr. Serdar Nazarov - one of the first passengers said that the direct flight has shortened the travel time by nearly half, to about 9 hours compared to 18 hours when flying on a connecting flight. The Boeing 777 aircraft has comfortable seats, a convenient and airy passenger cabin, and professional flight attendants, making him feel more secure on his 4th business trip to Vietnam.

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, trade between Vietnam and Turkmenistan in 2021 reached 0.56 million USD (down 25.8% over the same period in 2020). Of which, Vietnam's exports to Turkmenistan reached 0.46 million USD, up 40.6% over the same period in 2020.
The Central Asian country has an area of 491,210 km2, a population of 6.4 million people, ranks 10th in the world in cotton production, has some areas rich in resources but most of the area is Karakum Desert (Black Sand Desert). This place is also famous for three world heritage sites recognized by UNESCO including: Merv Citadel (1999), Kunya-Urgench (2005), and Parthian Nisa Fortress (2007).
