Kinhtedothi - Thiet Ung village (Van Ha commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi) is famous for its wood carving craft. The artisans in the village were once granted the title of "Cuu Pham Ba Ho" (a mandarin position) by the Nguyen Dynasty.
In the flow of development
Thiet Ung village is also known as Ong village, in ancient times it was also known as Xa Lap Ward or Xa Lap Ward. This place is famous for its traditional wood carving craft.
Since ancient times, craftsmen in Thiet Ung village have organized into groups of workers to travel to each rural area in the country to build production. Generation after generation, the artisans and skilled workers of Thiet Ung village always preserve the quintessence of traditional crafts left by their ancestors.
Mr. Dao Cong Trung, Head of Thiet Ung village (Van Ha commune), is also one of the skilled wood craftsmen of the craft village. He shared that during the Nguyen Dynasty, artisans of Thiet Ung village were summoned to the palace to participate in the construction of palaces and royal tombs.
Thanks to their ingenuity, dexterity and high skills, many artisans of Thiet Ung craft village were awarded the title of "Nine-rank Ba Ho" (a mandarin position in the Nguyen Dynasty) by the royal court.
Currently, 60% of households in Van Ha commune are involved in production, business and wood carving. Production facilities are distributed in 5 villages in the commune, the largest of which is in Thiet Ung village. Notably, the commune currently has 14 artisans recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee.
Sustainable craft village development
Over the years, Thiet Ung craft village has been constantly changing. The products of the craft village are strongly consumed in the domestic market and exported. Wood carving has become a key economic sector of Van Ha commune, Dong Anh district.
Chairman of Thiet Ung Craft Village Association (Van Ha commune) Do Van Cuong said that the wooden products of artisans here are diverse in types, from furniture (cabinets, altars, tables and chairs) to statues, relief paintings... The items are very popular with domestic and foreign customers.
Some products of artisans of the craft village have won high prizes in handicraft product design competitions and have been voted as typical rural industrial products at the city and regional levels.
It is known that, in order to promote the development of Thiet Ung craft village, recently, Dong Anh district has planned and developed Van Ha wood material market, production area, product display, gradually bringing the model of Creative Design Center to introduce, promote and sell OCOP products, Van Ha commune's fine art wood craft village to operate effectively...
Recently, artisans and many people of Van Ha commune were delighted when the Hanoi People's Committee issued Decision No. 1567/QD-UBND on recognizing the tourist destination of Thiet Ung Fine Arts Wood Craft Village, Van Ha commune, Dong Anh district.
Chairwoman of Van Ha Commune People's Committee Do Thi Hao excitedly said that with the attention of Hanoi City, the government expects Thiet Ung craft village to become a safe, friendly, rich in identity, attractive, and impressive destination in the hearts of tourists and friends from near and far on the journey to discover the cultural heritage of the homeland.
In the coming time, the People's Committee of Van Ha commune will coordinate with relevant departments and branches to organize the management, investment, construction and exploitation of Thiet Ung craft village tourist site in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Tourism and related legal documents, ensuring sustainable and effective development.
“When participating in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, Van Ha commune has 31 wooden handicraft products recognized as 3-4 star OCOP products.
