Death penalty for 3 defendants in the case of trafficking more than 23kg of drugs from Laos to Vietnam

On August 22, at the trial of the case of illegal drug trafficking from Laos to Vietnam, the People's Court of Ha Nam province sentenced to death 3 defendants, including 1 defendant of foreign nationality.

According to the indictment, on the evening of November 16, 2022, the Working Group of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security chaired and coordinated with professional units of the Ha Nam Provincial Police to perform tasks in Chau Son Ward, Phu Ly City, Ha Nam Province.

Here, the above forces discovered and caught red-handed many subjects who organized illegal drug use, including: Nguyen Van Sang (in Bao Loc 1 area, Thanh Chau ward, Phu Ly city); Xia Xiong, Toua Xiong and Chua Xong (all Lao nationalities).

The police seized 6 plastic bags containing drugs.

Expanding the investigation, on December 18, 2022, the police urgently arrested Nguyen Tuan Anh (in Phuong Canh ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi) and Hoang Phuong Thao (in Nguyen Du ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi).

Searching Nguyen Tuan Anh's residence, police seized 3 white foil packages containing various drugs.

At the investigation agency, Nguyen Tuan Anh confessed to buying the above drugs from Nguyen Van Sang and Hoang Thi Khanh Ly (in Phu Ly city, Ha Nam) and a number of other subjects.

Trial of defendants in the case of illegal drug trafficking from Laos to Vietnam

The investigation agency clarified that this was a case of illegal drug trafficking from Laos to Vietnam for consumption led by Xia Xiong and Nguyen Van Sang, with the method being that Xia Xiong bought drugs in Laos, then assigned Toua Xiong and Chua Xong to transport them to Vietnam and deliver them to Sang.

After receiving drugs transferred by Laotian subjects, Sang sold them to Nguyen Tuan Anh and Hoang Phuong Thao. From September 2022 to December 16, 2022, the defendants bought and sold more than 23kg of various drugs.

In this case, Nguyen Van Sang, Xia Xiong and Nguyen Tuan Anh played the role of masterminds; Hoang Phuong Thao, Hoang Thi Khanh Ly, Toua Xiong and Chua Xong were active accomplices in committing the crime.

At the trial, the panel sentenced three defendants, Nguyen Van Sang, Nguyen Tuan Anh and Xia Xiong, to death for “Illegal drug trafficking”; the remaining defendants were sentenced to life in prison.
