On April 5, a delegation from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City had a working session with representatives of the American International School - Vietnam (AISVN International School) and parents of students regarding issues at the school.

At the meeting, Mr. Ho Quang Trung, a member of the school board, said that the financial situation was facing many difficulties, and the school had proposed many options to invite investors to cooperate to maintain operations. In addition, the school had also committed to the amount of support.

"With the money parents have paid, the school is planning to issue shares to parents," Mr. Trung said, emphasizing that this is an important stage and promised to try.

The school is currently checking attendance for March for the staff and approving the salary payment order for the staff (3:00 p.m. on April 4), but due to a system error reported by the bank, the staff has not received it yet.

On behalf of the school, Mr. Trung apologized to parents for the recent events. He also directed staff to respond via email to thank parents for their contributions and committed to returning them. The school will find financial resources for long-term operations and will make an official announcement to all parents.

Ms. Chandra McGowan, the school's principal, said that currently, 2-3 teachers have refused to return to school until they receive their full salary for March 2024; 2 teachers have not yet completed their resignation documents, so the school has not yet made specific allocations. For classes lacking teachers, the school will move students to the library and allow them to study on their own under the supervision of the librarian (only Math is allowed).

"Currently, about 15 teachers have left for various reasons. If the maintenance fee is fully paid, the school will still carry out the program," said the Principal of AISVN International School.

The school promised too many times.

Ms. Tran Phuong Anh - the parent representative supervising the school's activities said that they could only call on each grade level for support. However, each parent had different reasons, while the school did not take any positive action.

Ms. Anh emphasized that her main responsibility is to monitor the cash flow, not to call for donations. The school has lost the trust of parents because it has not provided a long-term direction for its operations. Therefore, according to her, calling for donations from parents is very difficult.

Ms. Le Nhat Yen, a representative of the parents, commented that the school's plan was to contribute 4 billion VND to the working group's account, but it has not been seen yet. The school needs to take measures to promptly inform parents. The tables on finances and the number of students are not specific to reality.

"How will the school make public the list of parents' contributions? The situation of contributions to the school, who has paid, who has not paid... all parents do not know," Ms. Yen emphasized.

Responding to parents' questions, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, the school's accountant, said that the school is currently finalizing a time with Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em - Chairwoman of the School Board to transfer 4 billion. The school will issue a document detailing the above incident.

Listening to the opinions of all parties, Ms. Le Thuy My Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, informed that the Department has come up with many plans in the past. Today, the Department has chosen the solution that parents trust and wish for their children to continue studying here.

At this time, everything needs to be made public so that parents can understand, the professional department continues to grasp and monitor, record to promptly report, propose solutions. Cases of exemption/reduction must be calculated clearly.

"Investors and schools need to have a thank you letter, sent in a way that shows the respect of investors and the School Board for the parents' gesture. Because in the past, the school has made many promises. The Department recommends that investors soon have a specific plan for restructuring, before May 15. The Department's role is only to supervise," said Ms. Chau.
