AISVN International School announces expected reopening in January 2025

AISVN International School suddenly announced to parents that it plans to reopen in January 2025. What does the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training say about this?

This afternoon, November 1, many parents of American International School (AISVN) unexpectedly received an email notification from the school board about the school's preparations to reopen.

"Students can still study fully… in this special school year"

According to this email, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu - introducing herself as the acting chairwoman of the AISVN International School Board - said that "the school board, parents, teachers, staff, old and new staff have worked together to resolve the school's difficulties over the past two months, to ensure that AISVN will reopen as scheduled in January 2025".

The email reads: "At the same time as dealing with issues with state management agencies, debt obligations and large debts so that the school can continue to operate, our school has rebuilt a strong team of teachers and restructured the curriculum for this new school year, submitting it to the People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City for approval so that the school year program can be completed within the expected time from January 2025 to August 2025.

Students can still study fully, without interruption or loss of knowledge during this special school year.

In order for AISVN to overcome the current difficulties and reopen the school, many supporting resources are needed. However, in our opinion, there is no resource stronger than the goal of sending thousands of children to school. The consensus of the community is the source of support for the school to strongly overcome the current difficulties and bring our children back to their beloved school.

From next week, we will be renovating and upgrading our facilities, upgrading our IT systems... to prepare for the new school year. At the same time, we will also announce information about the teaching and learning programs, and survey information to ask parents for their opinions on facilities and means of transportation"...

AISVN International School has not been allowed to reopen yet.

On the afternoon of November 1, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online about this matter, Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - said that recently AISVN International School sent a document to the department informing that the school will carry out repairs and renovations to its facilities...

"The school's renovation is the school's investor's job, so they can do it with permission from the authorities. But it is not possible to reopen the school at this point, because the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has not yet received any application for permission to reopen the school," Mr. Minh added.

In August 2024, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em's appointment of Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu to join the school board of AISVN International School was not official.

If the school wants to appoint a chairman of the school board, it must submit its application to the department for review and recognition. If the school wants to resume operations, it must overcome all the reasons that led to the school being suspended, especially the issue of financial resources.

Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City decided to suspend the educational activities of AISVN International School for 12 months from July 1.
