The water level of the Red River is currently higher than alert level 2 and is expected to continue rising, forcing more than 800 households outside the Red River dike in 4 wards of Bac Tu Liem district to evacuate to safety.
Yesterday, the Department of Education and Training of Bac Tu Liem district directed schools in the area to prepare human resources, facilities, supplies, drinking water and essential food, and be ready to welcome households to take shelter at schools when localities evacuate people, ensuring safety.
Schools have arranged gymnasiums, meeting rooms and functional rooms to welcome people, so the relocation does not affect students' learning.
At Thuy Phuong Primary School, last night, some households affected by the storm were evacuated by local authorities to the Thuy Phuong Primary School shelter. The school has arranged staff to receive and support people 24/7.
Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Principal of Thuy Phuong Primary School, said that the school's gymnasium can accommodate about 80-100 people, but currently only 3 households with 8 people have come to the school to take shelter. If the water level continues to rise, the school is ready to receive people.
These days, Dong Ngac Secondary School has also proactively prepared foam mats, blankets, pillows, drinking water, and instant food to serve people coming to evacuate.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Phuong, Principal of Dong Ngac Secondary School, said that the school has arranged an independent area, a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of 150 - 200 people. In case students switch to online learning, the school's capacity can be up to thousands of people.
Thuong Cat Secondary School has also prepared rice, water, and instant noodles since yesterday; reserved a library and boarding rooms, with a capacity of about 200 people, to be ready to welcome people to take shelter.
On the university side, the Academy of Finance announced that it will accept foreign students living along the Nhue and Red rivers to stay in the school's dormitories.
Many schools: Foreign Language University, Hanoi National University, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology,... announced to adjust teaching and learning methods to online from September 11 until further notice. Direct practical classes will be postponed and will be rescheduled later.
Hanoi Capital University and the National Academy of Public Administration have switched from in-person to online teaching according to the issued schedule starting from September 11 to September 15.
Some schools have announced the postponement of first-year student activities, or the postponement of the start date compared to the previous announcement to ensure student safety.
