He is also a very skilled expert in knee and hip replacement surgery, helping patients to have less pain and recover quickly; treating many children who were born unable to walk, now able to walk normally.

Conquering the world's unrecorded medical cases
2014 marked one of the most memorable milestones in the career of Dr. Le Trong Phat with the surgery for the patient Do Trong Hieu (14 years old) with congenital knee deformity, losing the ability to walk. His patella was completely dislocated, the tibia was subluxated. The patellar tendon and some ligaments were stuck together, the anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate, anterior cruciate ligament was stretched, the meniscus was missing outside the knee joint... At that time, domestic medical facilities did not have a treatment solution for Hieu. Consulting with many leading experts in Germany and Australia, they said they had never encountered similar cases. After consultation, Australian doctors recommended amputation and prosthetic leg for the boy.
Hieu, a boy who fell every few steps due to a congenital leg defect, after two surgeries, can now run and play soccer with friends.
Amputating the teenager’s legs was an extremely difficult decision. After days of struggling to study the patient’s medical records, Dr. Phat finally found a feasible solution to treat the patient without amputating the limbs. The patient’s left and right legs were successfully operated on and recovered spectacularly, allowing him to walk normally and even play soccer with his friends.
Most recently, Dr. Phat also helped Nguyen Thi Trang (12 years old, in Quang Binh ) to walk on her own feet for the first time after more than ten years of having to move on her knees, due to being born with a congenital clubfoot and short heel.

When asked about his feelings when successfully treating rare cases like the above, Dr. Phat smiled and replied: "I am very happy when patients have a better quality of life after treatment. When I see patients have the life I envisioned, I feel satisfied."
Knee replacement for the elderly: improving quality of life for patients
In addition to complex surgeries, Dr. Le Trong Phat is also known as a leading expert in the field of knee and hip replacement, with a technique that few people can perform: no drainage tube after surgery, helping patients to recover less pain, shorten hospital stay and save costs.

Knee replacement patients will be instructed in physical therapy and in-hospital rehabilitation immediately after surgery. Many patients cannot believe that they can "have surgery in the morning and practice walking in the afternoon".
FV Hospital's Orthopedic Trauma Department has successfully performed knee replacements for patients aged 80-90, even a 99-year-old patient had his knee replaced at FV. He is now 104 years old and enjoys a happy and healthy life with his children and grandchildren, can walk and do daily activities on his own, and does not have to endure the pain and suffering as before.
According to Dr. Phat, surgeries are performed in operating rooms that meet JCI international medical standards, and the surgical infection rate at FV is only about 0.2% - an impressive number when compared to even developed medical fields.
The journey back was full of surprises
Having lived in Germany for nearly 4 decades, worked and developed his career for 22 years, reaching the position of Deputy Head of the Department of General Surgery - Orthopedics, Franzikus Hospital, Dr. Le Trong Phat's decision to return to Vietnam to work at FV Hospital in 2010 surprised many people.
"During my time working in Germany, I learned a lot, but I still wanted to put myself in a more challenging environment with more opportunities for professional development. Returning to Vietnam was a carefully considered decision. I returned to contribute to the country's medicine, develop my career, and at the same time want to experience life in my homeland," Dr. Phat recalled his decision to return to work in Vietnam.

In fact, the working conditions, environment, facilities and equipment at FV Hospital are invested according to international standards, similar to hospitals in Germany, which is also a factor that made Dr. Phat decide to return.
"In addition to modern facilities, the hospital also has international standard professional processes to meet the desire for the best treatment for patients. These factors are similar to my professional values, consistent with the direction I am pursuing, so I agreed to join FV without hesitation," Dr. Phat explained.
Returning to Vietnam at a time when the country's medical techniques were still not on par with those of advanced countries, Dr. Le Trong Phat began to develop a new treatment process, and together with the FV team, brought many advanced methods from around the world to apply here.
He also continuously passes on valuable experiences gained over several decades of his career to the next generation.
For the head of the department who is over 60 years old, continuing to contribute to FV not only brings joy and more professional achievements, but also helps him support many patients according to his wishes.
