Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang expressed hope that Washington will work with Beijing to resolve differences, promote exchanges and cooperation, and avoid further deterioration of bilateral relations.
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang had a phone call with his US counterpart Antony Blinken on June 14, in which he called on Washington to implement the agreement between the two countries and honor the commitments made to prevent tensions between the two countries from getting out of control.
Mr. Qin Gang assessed that since the beginning of the year, China-US relations have encountered many obstacles. He expressed hope that Washington will work with Beijing to resolve differences, promote exchanges and cooperation, prevent the bilateral relationship from deteriorating further, and bring the relationship back to a healthy and stable development trajectory.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also called on the US to take concrete actions to realize the important agreement reached by the leaders of the two countries at the G20 Summit held in Bali, Indonesia.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State A. Blinken also announced on Twitter that he and his Chinese counterpart discussed "open channels of communication" during a phone call on June 13, ahead of his scheduled visit to Beijing next week.
"The two sides discussed ongoing efforts to maintain open lines of communication as well as bilateral and global issues," said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. "The two ministers discussed the importance of maintaining open lines of communication to responsibly manage the US-China relationship to avoid potential miscalculation and conflict. The two sides discussed a range of bilateral and global issues, areas of mutual concern, and potential areas of cooperation."
Secretary of State Blinken is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on June 18. This will be the first visit by a top US diplomat to China since Mike Pompeo's visit in October 2018./.
