According to experts and cashew farmers in the province, the 2024-2025 cashew crop will not yield high yields. Because at the end of February, while the cashew gardens were in full bloom, there were consecutive unseasonal rains, drying out the flowers and causing massive fruit loss. However, there are still cashew gardens that are less affected and have high yields.
1.7 hectares of cashew, harvested more than 3 tons of fresh nuts
That is the cashew garden of Mr. Duong Dinh Thuy in village 11, Thong Nhat commune, Bu Dang district. While the old, adjacent cashew gardens have dried up and the amount of fruit is insignificant due to the harsh weather, the 1.7-hectare grafted cashew garden of Mr. Thuy's family, which has been planted for 30 months, still produces abundant fruit. Mrs. Tran Thi Soi, Mr. Thuy's wife, boasted: "Up to this point, my family collects about 2-3 quintals of fresh cashew nuts every day. This year is the third year, but in fact the cashew garden is only 30 months old. I find this cashew variety very good. 10 cashew buds produce all 10 flowers, there is no crop without flowers."
Mr. Thuy said: The family's 1.7-hectare old cashew garden grows traditional cashew varieties, and each year only yields about 1 ton of fresh cashew nuts. The income is not enough to cover expenses, so I decided to cut it down. After watching TV, I learned that the BP102 cashew variety of Mr. Hoang Van Tan in Long Ha commune, Phu Rieng district has many advantages, so I bought it to plant. Since replacing this BP102 grafted cashew variety, although it has not yet produced the main harvest, after 2 harvest seasons, the yield has increased significantly. The first year yielded about 5 quintals, the second year over 1 ton, and this year it is estimated to reach more than 3 tons of fresh cashew nuts. After deducting expenses, my family earned about 90 million VND.
Mr. Hoang Van Tan and his wife Mr. Duong Dinh Thuy were satisfied when they saw that their 1.7 hectare cashew garden, which had only been planted for 30 months, had yielded more than 3 tons of fresh cashew nuts this season.
BP102 cashew variety was chosen for planting and now the 2-hectare cashew garden of Mr. Nong Van Phuong's family in village 4, Thong Nhat commune has been harvested for the third year. According to Mr. Phuong, last year's cashew season, his family harvested more than 2 tons of fresh cashew nuts, and this year's cashew crop, although affected by unseasonal rain, still yielded more than 4 tons. Mr. Phuong concluded: "This cashew variety is very good, the seeds are bright, the fruit is crispy, easy to pick, very beneficial for cashew collectors."
At Mr. Phuong's cashew garden, in 2024, Mr. An Ti Ni O, the owner of a business producing, processing and exporting Mozambican cashews, was taken by Mr. Tan to visit and was attracted by the superior characteristics of the BP102 cashew variety. After being given a number of cashew seedlings by Mr. Tan, after 1 year of planting, these trees flowered and bore fruit. On that basis, Mr. An Ti Ni O and his friends decided to cooperate with Mr. Tan to buy a large quantity of BP102 cashew varieties for cultivation, developing the family economy and their homeland and country.
Put all your trust in BP102 cashew variety
BP102 cashew variety is the product of Mr. Tan's family. Through the process of planting, selecting, and breeding by Mr. Tan as well as from the results of testing and research by the Management Board of the high-tech agricultural zone of Binh Phuoc province and especially from the reality of growers, BP102 cashew variety shows many outstanding advantages. Mr. Tan said: During the process of growing cashew trees, I selected a leading cashew tree, now 45 years old. This cashew tree has a good harvest every year, is weather-resistant, and has good disease resistance. Through each cashew season, the tree yields an average of 50-60kg of nuts, with some years yielding more than 70kg. On that basis, the program to select leading cashew trees by the Management Board of the high-tech agricultural zone of Binh Phuoc province was selected to be implemented in the period from 2013-2018. After that, the unit recognized this as a leading cashew tree variety with many outstanding advantages.
“The biggest advantage of BP102 cashew variety is that it is a native variety of Binh Phuoc, suitable for the soil, resistant to harsh weather and good disease resistance. When the tree has produced its main harvest, the old tree can reach 30-50kg of nuts. The size of the nuts is not very large, but the market and cashew buyers really like it because the nuts are firm, heavy and bright.” Mr. HOANG VAN TAN, Long Ha commune, Phu Rieng district |
Since being recognized as the first cashew variety by the Management Board of the High-Tech Agricultural Zone of Binh Phuoc province and the provincial agricultural sector, the BP102 cashew variety has been propagated by Mr. Tan's family and has provided cashew growers with more than 700,000 seedlings, equivalent to thousands of hectares. Dedicated to the results of their hard work in researching and selecting, Mr. Tan and BP102 cashew growers always connect via Zalo and other smartphone applications to follow each cashew season. "Every time I receive information from the garden owner about a good harvest, I am very happy. I just remind cashew growers that if they choose the BP102 variety, from September onwards, they must pay attention to monitoring, preventing, and not letting the tops of the trees be eaten by bugs, so that the trees will flower on schedule. Cashews that flower early will limit weather risks, and the selling price will also be higher," Mr. Tan shared.
The good news spread far and wide, every time the cashew season comes like now, not only cashew growers in the province, in the country but also abroad have come to Mr. Tan, to the BP102 cashew gardens full of fruit. All are attracted, easily receive nods, admiration and from there, there are many export shipments of BP102 cashew varieties with the Binh Phuoc - Hoang Van Tan cashew brand reaching the world.
