BTO-This is the topic of the discussion organized by the Provincial Museum in coordination with the Ninh Thuan Cham Cultural Research Center on the occasion of the Kate Festival of the Cham people, on October 5.
The program was attended by Ms. Thanh Thi Ky - Head of the Ethnic Committee of the Provincial People's Council, representatives of the Provincial Museum and the Ninh Thuan Cham Cultural Research Center, the Economic Infrastructure Department of Bac Binh district, cultural researchers of the two provinces, the People's Committee of Phan Hiep commune and pottery artisans of Binh Duc craft village, Phan Hiep commune (Bac Binh).
Cham pottery is a precious heritage that had a period of brilliant development in the Asian region. The presence of Binh Dinh - Vijaya Cham pottery at many archaeological sites in the region is evidence of the development and spread of ancient Champa pottery. However, to date, Cham pottery only exists in two villages: Bau Truc pottery village (Ninh Thuan) and Binh Duc pottery village (Binh Thuan).
UNESCO's inscription of Cham pottery art into the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2022 has affirmed the value of the Cham people's cultural heritage in the two localities. In fact, in recent years, the Cham pottery craft has received attention from the government and the community. That attention is reflected in such things as: Building a dossier to propose the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to include it in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, recognizing artisans; the provincial level has also developed investment projects to implement the preservation and development of pottery craft villages; from 2005 to 2019, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces issued 24 legal documents to support craft villages, opened 14 vocational training classes for 407 students... but Cham pottery craft villages are still facing risks, challenges and difficulties.
At the seminar, cultural managers, researchers from the two localities, local authorities and artisans focused on exchanging and sharing experiences in developing craft villages in Bau Truc pottery village and promoting the value of traditional pottery making art in Ninh Thuan; affirming the value of Binh Duc Cham pottery in community life. At the same time, more information was provided about the flow of Binh Dinh Cham pottery discovered in Binh Thuan, which is related to Binh Duc Cham pottery, and proposing solutions to improve Cham pottery production activities in Binh Duc pottery village...
Assessing at the seminar, Mr. Doan Van Thuan - Director of Binh Thuan Provincial Museum said: The seminar received a number of presentations from cultural researchers, collectors, local leaders, and opinions from the actual work of artisans, showing more clearly the current status of the profession in the market mechanism.
In addition, it also proposes solutions or requests for competent authorities, agencies and localities to consider, support to remove difficulties and orient the development of Cham pottery in the coming time related to propaganda work, production planning, raw material areas, training to improve skills for artisans and labor resources, improving designs, promoting trade, applying science and technology, environmental protection work, etc.
Binh Thuan Provincial Museum and Ninh Thuan Provincial Cham Cultural Research Center hope that leaders, researchers, Cham intellectuals, businesses and artisan communities will continue to accompany in the cause of preserving and promoting the traditional pottery craft of the Cham people so that Cham pottery can soon pass the emergency protection stage, become a representative cultural heritage of humanity, and move towards stable development.
