Cuu Long Joint Operating Company (Cuu Long JOC) is one of the first foreign joint operating companies in the oil and gas industry during the period of renovation and opening up. Foreign oil and gas companies, especially the US - Conoco Phillipes, brought many advanced sciences, technologies and management methods to Vietnam in the early stages.
Pioneering approach to science and technology
The task for the Vietnamese leaders in Cuu Long JOC during this period is to organize and motivate Vietnamese staff to grasp and gradually master advanced science and technology, gradually replace foreigners, and boldly promote a team of qualified and capable Vietnamese staff to replace foreigners in the production management and mine development activities of Cuu Long JOC.
If previously, the Black Lion, Golden Lion (CPP platform) and Northeast Black Lion development projects had 98-99% foreigners, causing Cuu Long JOC to spend a lot of money, then after a period of fighting to regain the position for Vietnamese people, from 2010 onwards, the White Lion development project increased the proportion of Vietnamese people to 38%, followed by the Brown Lion development project at 51% and the Northeast Golden Lion development project (SV-15X, SV 16X) at 80%.
Up to now, the entire operating team on Cuu Long JOC's offshore projects has reached 100% Vietnamese.
More importantly, key positions are held by Vietnamese people, further affirming the role, qualifications and capabilities of Vietnamese people in managing and operating oil and gas activities. Having Vietnamese people take on jobs is not only cost-effective but also enhances the value of Vietnamese people's technological mastery, creating momentum to raise the value of Vietnam.
Promoting creativity in production
Inheriting the great values achieved in the process of training high-quality human resources, under the attention and close direction of the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Corporation (PVEP) and the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petro Vietnam), the Board of Directors of Cuu Long JOC always strives to find solutions to improve the quality of human resources; including encouraging the spirit of creative work among employees.
In particular, in the context of volatile oil prices, optimizing costs and reducing the price per barrel of oil is always one of the key goals of any oil and gas operator.
To inspire and stimulate the spirit of initiative and creativity of employees, the Board of Directors of Cuu Long JOC always encourages and motivates employees to promote their creativity in production and directly accompanies and participates throughout each initiative and invention (SKSC) such as: approving initiatives, giving comments to authors, making reasonable edits...
This is what makes the creative movement spread strongly at Cuu Long JOC, especially recently, more and more authors and groups of authors participate in the company's SKSC activities.
Based on the reality at Cuu Long JOC, many employees have SKSC that is applied effectively in practice but do not clearly understand how to present and write it into an initiative, so the company has established an initiative team to disseminate the regulations of SKSC activities to all employees, support registration procedures, guide presentations, defend before the initiative council...; at the same time, regularly update new regulations and rules on SKSC activities of PVEP and Petro Vietnam so that employees can grasp it promptly; share and update SKSCs of other companies for employees to refer to or apply in practical production activities.
Within 10 years from 2013 to 2022, Cuu Long JOC presented 40 useful initiatives/solutions to rationalize production, of which 29 topics were reviewed, evaluated and recognized by PVEP Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Corporation and 109 initiatives were recognized at the Group level, 02 initiatives won Third Prize and Encouragement Prize at the VIFOTEC National Technical Innovation Contest.
In the 2020-2022 period alone, Cuu Long JOC has 0811 useful initiatives and solutions - rationalizing technical production recognized by the PVEP SKSC Council, of which 02 initiatives were recognized at the highest level of PVEP and the special level of Petrovietnam, 01 initiative won the Encouragement Prize of the VIFOTEC National Technical Innovation Contest.
One of the typical initiatives that has contributed to improving the operational and exploitation efficiency of Cuu Long JOC is the initiative "Using polymerized sealing fluid under the impact of pressure difference to overcome the leakage problem of the rotating mechanism transmitting water and oil exploitation (Produced Oil & Water Swivel) on the Thai Binh-VN FPSO".
This initiative was also ranked third in the 14th VIFOTEC National Technical Innovation Contest (2016-2017), recognized by Petro Vietnam as a special initiative in 2016, bringing in economic efficiency of 9.2 million USD.
The second initiative that helped Cuu Long JOC continue to achieve high results at the 16th VIFOTEC National Technical Innovation Contest (2020-2021), and was also recognized by Petro Vietnam as a Special Group-level Initiative, is the initiative "Reducing friction of cables and pipes for blasting the STT-3PST well with a complex structure".
The economic efficiency brought by this initiative is about 5.5 million USD. In addition to the significant economic value added from the initiative, the initiative also allows the exploitation of the entire reservoir of the STT-3PST well, contributing significantly to information collection, mine management as well as supplementing the overall mine development planning in the following period.
In parallel with the PVEP/Petro Vietnam initiative emulation movement, recently, Cuu Long JOC has also been actively responding to the 1 million initiatives movement of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, with an estimated 40-50 initiatives being put forward and proposed. These initiatives have been and are being applied to production practices, improving the lives and working environment of workers, enhancing operational efficiency and benefiting the company, partners, Petro Vietnam as well as Vietnam in general.
To achieve outstanding achievements in creative work in recent times, Cuu Long JOC collective, especially enthusiastic young staff, constantly research and learn to optimize exploitation technology, apply advanced technology in drilling construction, boldly apply new technologies to successfully optimize periodic downtime for repair, maintenance and certification maintenance.
The staff and employees are always united, dare to think and dare to do, proactively and creatively overcome difficulties, helping Cuu Long JOC successfully complete production tasks, complete crude oil exploitation plans and financial plans assigned by the Corporation/Group.
Mr. Le Dac Hoa - General Director of Cuu Long JOC affirmed that SKSC is an important driving force for development. Therefore, in addition to promoting the SKSC movement to develop in the company, it is necessary to continuously replicate and popularize good SKSCs with wide applicability so that their effectiveness is multiplied, not only in a company but in the entire Oil and Gas industry.
To promote the movement of innovation and technical improvement in the following years, Cuu Long JOC will create better conditions for the young generation to participate in this movement; besides, it will promote the role and responsibility of the heads of each department, proactively think creatively, propose ideas and solutions throughout the company.
The goal of initiatives and solutions must be applied to production practices, improving the quality and efficiency of operations, with priority given to groups implementing research on high-tech solutions and smart technology associated with technical improvements and cost reduction.
In the coming time, Cuu Long JOC will continue to innovate in appraisal and approval methods, to encourage, motivate and inspire creativity, respecting even the simplest ideas so that innovation and invention activities truly become an important driving force for the sustainable development of Cuu Long JOC.
