Tran Thanh thinks netizens misunderstood
Retelling the story to the audience, film director Mai shared that at that time he sympathized with the film analysis of audience member Tran Thu Ha about the mother-son relationship of the character Binh Minh (played by actress Uyen An).
That's why Tran Thanh commented below the analysis: "You wrote so well, next to Mai are Binh Minh and Duong, both are the light of Mai's life. But Binh Minh will be bright! But on the other side is Trung Duong. Although he is the sun, he will fade. Thank you for thinking deeply about the movie."
This explanation immediately caused controversy on social networking sites, many viewers thought that Tran Thanh was "ignorant but liked to play with words" because the meaning of the word "trung" was completely different.
To explain this, Tran Thanh said the names of the people in Mai's life all revolve around the meaning of the main character's name:
"Mai is the apricot blossom, symbolizing happiness and wealth. But does anyone know the story of the apricot tree, which withers all year round and needs human care to bloom during Tet?"
Through the name, Tran Thanh wants to convey Mai's life story, needing to meet the right person, at the right time for Mai's character to blossom like the ending of the film.
In addition, Tran Thanh also shared that Mai also means tomorrow, although vague, it symbolizes the faith and hope of this character.

That's why the two characters Binh Minh and Trung Duong in the movie are two lights of Mai's life. Binh Minh is clear, and the name Duong comes from "sunlight".
If Binh Minh is Mai's complete companion, Tran Thanh wanted Duong to be something more flawed, so he named him Truong Duong. The director also explained that he is from the South, so he heard that "chung" (the opposite of "cang") and "trung" sound the same, so he left it alone.
Tran Thanh also confidently stated: "I am Chinese (Vietnamese) so there is no way I don't understand what the word "trung duong" means. The name Trung Duong in Mai is, in my implicit understanding, the sun sets, so what?".
However, he also expressed that he did not blame the audience for misunderstanding. He said that as an artist, one must know how to receive comments and reactions from the audience, and more importantly, one must know how to share so that everyone understands correctly.
