What risks do Tran Quyet Chien and Phuong Vinh face?
As reported by Thanh Nien , Mr. Doan Tuan Anh - General Secretary of the Vietnam Billiards & Snooker Federation (VBSF) and in charge of this sport at the Department of Sports and Physical Training said that on July 13, VBSF received a notice from ACBS. The notice clearly stated that VBSF officials, athletes, and coaches will be banned from participating in Asian and international activities and tournaments for 6 months, from June 13, 2024 to January 12, 2025.
With the above decision, the players of the Vietnamese billiards team will not be able to participate in the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 6) in November 2024 in Thailand. Most likely, Vietnam will not be able to host the World Championship in Binh Thuan in September, and the athletes will not be able to participate in the World Cup in Korea. Even if the ban is extended to world tournaments, this will greatly affect the journey to conquer the 3-cushion carom billiards village of the top Vietnamese players today such as Tran Quyet Chien, Bao Phuong Vinh, Chiem Hong Thai, Tran Thanh Luc ...
Tran Quyet Chien is currently ranked 2nd in the world in 3-cushion carom.
From now until January 2025, Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards players still have many important tournaments such as: World Championship 2024 (in Binh Thuan) in September, World Cup Veghel (Netherlands) in October, World Cup Seoul 2024 (Korea) in November, World Cup Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) in December. These are all important tournaments to accumulate points and decide the ranking on the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB) rankings.
In particular, the 2024 World Championship (UMB's most prestigious tournament) in September in Binh Thuan is a tournament of great significance for Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh in defending their top positions on the UMB rankings. Because according to UMB's scoring method, when participating in the 2024 World Championship, players must defend the points they achieved at the 2023 World Championship (in Ankara, Türkiye). Notably, at the 2023 World Championship, Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh won the highest titles when they both participated in the final match. Quyet Chien was runner-up, while Phuong Vinh was crowned champion.
Bao Phuong Vinh is the current World Championship champion.
World rankings severely affected
Therefore, Tran Quyet Chien needs to protect 54 points, while Bao Phuong Vinh has to protect 80 points. In case he cannot participate in the 2024 World Championship (which means he has no chance to protect his points) and is deducted points by UMB, Quyet Chien will lose 54 points, and Phuong Vinh will lose 80 points. Such a deduction of many points will seriously affect the rankings of the two leading 3-cushion carom billiards players in Vietnam at the moment.
Currently, Tran Quyet Chien (354 points) is ranked 2nd, while Bao Phuong Vinh (250 points) is ranked 8th on the UMB rankings. If the UMB deducts points as mentioned above, Quyet Chien may not be able to maintain the world's number 2 position, while Bao Phuong Vinh is likely to fall out of the top 10 players after the 2024 World Championship ends.

Latest UMB Rankings
In addition, in the event that Quyet Chien and Phuong Vinh are not even allowed to participate in the remaining World Cup stages in 2024 (and are deducted points by UMB), the number of points these two players will lose will be even more. Of course, the rankings of the two top Vietnamese players on the UMB rankings will continue to "go down".
