The city wants to set off fireworks at eight locations on New Year's Eve in 2024, two more locations than last year.
Following the direction of Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture and Sports to review regulations and funding sources to increase the number of fireworks display locations for this year's Tet holiday. The city will launch high-altitude fireworks at two locations, including the beginning of the Saigon River tunnel, and increase one location in Cu Chi district and 5-6 low-altitude locations.
Mr. Vo Trong Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the unit has just received a document from the City People's Committee and is reviewing the shooting locations to report to the city before January 8.
Last year, after two years of suspension due to Covid-19, Ho Chi Minh City set off fireworks on New Year's Eve at 6 locations, including a high-altitude fireworks display at the beginning of the Saigon River tunnel (Thu Duc City). Five low-altitude fireworks displays were held at: Ben Noc Monument (Thu Duc City), Dam Sen Cultural Park (District 11), Can Thanh Town (Can Gio District), Ben Duoc Martyrs Memorial (Cu Chi District), and Mau Than 1968 Martyrs Memorial in Binh Chanh District. The fireworks were launched for 15 minutes at 0:00 on January 22 (the first day of the Lunar New Year); funding was from socialized sources.
