The head of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that the average income of people will increase from 7,600 USD (in 2024) to about 8,500 USD in 2025.
On the afternoon of December 26, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held the third conference to summarize and evaluate the results of work in 2024 and discuss and give opinions on directions and tasks in 2025; listening to the representative of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announce the socio-economic situation of the city in 2024 and key tasks in 2025.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations at all levels have proactively advised Party committees and coordinated with the government to focus on effectively implementing the Party's targets and resolutions, in conjunction with implementing the 2024 Program of coordinated and unified action of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels, clearly identifying the focus and key points to focus on, attaching importance to practicality and effectiveness, promoting creativity and flexibility.
In 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front proactively advised the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee to organize the launching ceremony of the campaign and receive voluntary contributions to support people in the northern provinces affected by storm No. 3; the Ho Chi Minh City Relief Mobilization Committee received support, with more than 320 billion VND, 280 tons of various goods and transferred 20 billion VND to the Central Relief Mobilization Committee; coordinated the organization of distribution and transportation of 280 tons of goods to the provinces; is continuing to coordinate with localities to support the construction of projects to overcome damage after natural disasters in accordance with requirements.
According to Ms. Kim Thuy, in 2025, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City and its member organizations at all levels will continue to focus on implementing the Resolution of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Congress at all levels for the 2024-2029 term; actively participate in giving advice and comments on drafting documents for the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term. At the same time, launch a special emulation campaign to celebrate major holidays, welcome the Party Congresses at all levels, the 12th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress, the 14th National Congress of the Party and celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam National United Front - Traditional Day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (November 18, 1930 - November 18, 2025).
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, expressed his gratitude to the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City at all levels for their positive contributions to the activities of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. According to Mr. Phan Van Mai, in 2024, the socio-economic situation in Ho Chi Minh City had many positive highlights. In particular, the city's overall growth reached 7.17%, contributing 16% to the country's GDP. The indicators of industry, retail sales of goods, services, transportation, etc. all increased.
In particular, some real estate businesses have overcome the difficult period, starting to have completed products and sell them to the market... In addition, the fields of culture, sports, health... also have many positive signs. In particular, the tourism industry in Ho Chi Minh City has grown by 30% compared to the previous year, including 6 million foreign visitors, creating a great driving force in the social life of the people.
However, the head of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also frankly acknowledged some unachieved results, including major infrastructure projects such as 3 hospitals in the gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City, expected to be put into operation by the end of 2024. Accordingly, these hospitals have almost completed construction, but the bidding for medical equipment and acceptance of fire prevention and fighting equipment have not been completed in time, causing the operation to be postponed to early 2025.
Regarding the 2025 operating plan, Mr. Phan Van Mai said that the city will strive to increase GDP by 10%, although this is a very high number. In addition, it also sets a target of average income of people reaching from 8,300 to 8,500 USD per year. In 2024, the average income per capita in Ho Chi Minh City was 7,600 USD/year.
