At 1:45 a.m. on June 20, the plane of President Vladimir Putin and his entourage landed at Noi Bai International Airport, beginning a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

Welcoming President Putin at the airport were Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung; Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai; Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi; and leaders of ministries, branches, central agencies and Hanoi city.

The plane landed, President Putin in a black suit, stepped out of the door, waved and quickly walked down.

This is Mr. Putin's fifth visit to Vietnam as head of state, following his visits in 2001, 2006, 2013 and 2017. Each visit of President Putin to Vietnam has left an important mark, becoming a driving force for the development of bilateral relations.

President Putin returns to visit Vietnam after nearly 7 years.

During his State visit to Vietnam, President Putin will hold talks and meetings with the highest leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam. The leaders of the two countries will discuss and orient the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership until 2030, defining more clearly the key areas of cooperation, from economics, trade, national defense and security, energy, science and technology to education, culture and people-to-people diplomacy.

Long-term goals and specific action plans will be set out to ensure sustainable and effective development of bilateral relations in the future.

This is also an opportunity for the two countries to discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern, contributing to peace, stability and development of the region and the world.

After chatting for a few minutes, President Putin and his entourage moved to the car.

After the welcoming ceremony at Noi Bai airport, President Putin moved to the hotel. At noon on June 20, the State welcoming ceremony for President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will take place at the Presidential Palace, chaired by President To Lam. Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, President To Lam and President Putin will hold talks, review and listen to the introduction of the documents signed on this occasion. The two leaders will then meet the press.

During the visit, as per previous tradition, President Vladimir Putin will lay a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs and visit President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.

Mr. Putin will also attend a meeting with Vietnamese students who graduated from Soviet and Russian universities.

Security was tight throughout the reception of the Russian leader.

The Russian President's visit to Vietnam, taking place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the fundamental principles of Vietnam-Russia friendship, is of great significance, further deepening the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in all fields and raising it to a new level in the new situation.

This visit also reaffirms Russia’s respect and commitment to the multifaceted cooperative relationship with Vietnam. At the same time, it demonstrates Vietnam’s active implementation of its foreign policy in the spirit of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization, for the benefit of the nation and people, and contributing to peace and stability in the world. This contributes to strengthening friendship and mutual trust, creating a solid foundation for the comprehensive development of bilateral relations in the future.

The motorcade carrying the Russian President and his entourage left Noi Bai airport at 2:00 a.m., traveled along Vo Nguyen Giap street, crossed Nhat Tan bridge, then followed Vo Chi Cong street to the center of Hanoi capital.

In an article posted on Nhan Dan Newspaper by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the head of Russia affirmed: The time-tested traditions of comradeship and mutual assistance serve as a solid foundation for continuing to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

“Together with our Vietnamese friends, we will continue to build bilateral relations and develop cooperation for the benefit of our peoples, for stability and prosperity in the region and around the world. And I believe that our two countries, on the basis of a tradition of good friendship, trust and mutual support, will achieve all the major goals set for them,” President Putin emphasized .
