On November 25, French President Emmanuel Macron received the annual honor from the Boston Global Forum (BGF) for the 2024 World Leader for Peace and Security Award.

Governor Michael Dukakis, co-founder and president of the Boston Global Forum, praised President Macron for his dedication to global peace and his forward-thinking approach to artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, the AI economy, and the development of a new AI-influenced democratic model.

President Macron expressed his gratitude for the honor and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in shaping the future of AI and democracy. He stressed the need to accelerate innovation, invest wisely and regulate appropriately to harness the potential of AI for the benefit of all humanity.

"In this age of artificial intelligence, perhaps the most revolutionary thing is to protect against deep fakes," the French leader said. According to him, the issue ultimately comes down to regulation in the era of digital order and the management of artificial intelligence.

Mr Macron commented that the legacy of modern politics, that is, the foundation of democracy, is threatened at its core. Concepts, norms, authority, beliefs, progress... the fruits of human efforts to understand and clarify the world are no longer common.

“We have moved from the dominance of facts to the dominance of opinions,” he said. With the great digital change, the great progress, there are significant distortions: criminal activities, a disregard for the digital order that allows the spread of hate speech and sometimes incitement to terrorism, conspiracy theories, paranoia, uninformed and uninformed information.

“The fundamental question is whether these massive revolutions—digital transformation and artificial intelligence—will allow us to invent a new Age of Enlightenment or will they completely erase humanism.”

From there, the French leader mentioned the need to build a common agenda to democratize artificial intelligence, make it more sustainable from an environmental and social point of view, and create comprehensive governance that brings together all countries and all stakeholders that need to participate. "Now is the moment when the fate of the next cycle of innovation is being decided and, further, the face of our society for our children."

The Boston Global Forum (BGF) conference with the theme "AIWS for New Democracy" was held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA on November 25. The event brought together experts, politicians, and influential people in many fields around the world.

At this conference, unique government applications of AIWS were discussed. In addition, Boston Areti AI (BAI), an advanced artificial intelligence agent developed under the BGF AIWS framework. Named after the Greek word “Areti”, meaning “virtue”, BAI embodies the ethical principles of AI, aiming to support government leaders in both their professional and personal roles.
