General Department of Taxation deploys solutions to combat impersonation of 'officials'

Accordingly, along with the strong development of information technology, recently, the situation of impersonating tax authorities on cyberspace has tended to increase with the purpose of defrauding and appropriating money from people and businesses, with many increasingly sophisticated tricks and methods.

In order to warn people and businesses to be vigilant against tricks and schemes of impersonating tax authorities to defraud and appropriate property, in recent times (especially in the period from July 15 to present), the tax sector has implemented synchronous measures to widely communicate on mass media; at the same time, directing communication throughout the entire tax system.

Specifically, the General Department of Taxation has sent an official dispatch to the Tax Departments of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct the implementation of the Campaign "Action Month to propagate and identify online fraud".

In addition, the General Department of Taxation has developed a set of documents with propaganda content on preventing and combating tax agency fraud on the internet and sent them to news agencies and provincial and municipal Tax Departments to promote propaganda on mass media.

Previously, the General Department of Taxation also issued a warning to the business community and taxpayers that recently, the situation of fraud via text messages; websites - Apps impersonating tax authorities are increasing in level and frequency continuously with the purpose of defrauding about tax payment authorization; buying and selling illegal invoices.

According to the General Department of Taxation, currently on social networking platforms, there are advertisements for online services about fake tax authority domains and apps set up and used by bad guys for the purpose of defrauding about tax payment authorization... Mr. Luu Nguyen Tri, Deputy Director of the Department of Information Technology, General Department of Taxation said that common forms of fraud are impersonating tax officers to call to provide and guide taxpayers to install software and applications. In particular, the subjects also use AI artificial intelligence technology such as: deepfake, deep voice... to create fake videos of tax officers, relatives, and friends to defraud.

In addition, create a website that looks like a tax agency and when users declare information on the fake website, their information will be stolen; at the same time, use fake SMS brand name of the General Department of Taxation to spread fake messages.

In particular, impersonating tax authorities, police agencies, and prosecutors to make threatening phone calls and using fraudulent tricks to appropriate taxpayers' assets.

To avoid being scammed, the General Department of Taxation warns businesses and citizens not to accept paid postal items “Tax Law Documents”. In case of any doubt, taxpayers should contact the Tax Department and Tax Branches in the area for support.
