On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024), on the afternoon of December 18, in Hanoi, General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission met and encouraged delegates of the young generation in the Army.

Also attending were General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense; Party Central Committee Secretaries: Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; key leaders of agencies of the Ministry of National Defense, representatives of leaders of a number of ministries, departments, branches and representatives of the People's Public Security youth.

Pioneer in implementing the Party's policies

Providing information on the results of the implementation of tasks and policy work for the Army youth in the 2020-2024 period, Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, affirmed that, promoting the role of the elite force of Vietnamese youth, in recent times, the youth of the entire army have effectively implemented revolutionary action movements launched by the Central Youth Union, promoting the movement "Army Youth cultivate virtue, train talents, be proactive, creative, worthy of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period," proactively implementing effectively the political tasks of each agency and unit; actively participating in the United Nations peacekeeping force, protecting the environment, preventing climate change, natural disasters, epidemics, etc.

With the attention of the Party and the State, in recent years, the regime and policies for cadres and soldiers in general, and the youth of the Army in particular, have been gradually improved, including attention to salary, allowance and housing policies. Thereby, contributing to improving material and spiritual life, helping cadres and soldiers stabilize their thoughts, feel secure in their work, and fulfill their assigned duties and tasks well; resolutely fighting against the distorted arguments of hostile forces and uncultured lifestyles, contributing to building a model of Army youth that truly represents the mettle, intelligence and qualities of Vietnamese youth.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure to meet the outstanding youth delegates of the Army, representing hundreds of thousands of young army members who are performing their civic duties and glorious missions across the country.

On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State, Central Military Commission - Ministry of National Defense and with personal feelings, General Secretary To Lam warmly commended, highly appreciated, congratulated and thanked the achievements, contributions, pioneering spirit in facing all dangers, the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, daring to sacrifice and contribute, and readiness to overcome difficulties and challenges of the youth of the entire army during 80 years of building, fighting, winning and growing up.

The General Secretary emphasized that after 40 years of renovation, with the position and strength that have been accumulated, with new opportunities and fortunes, our country is facing a historic opportunity to enter a new era, an era of development and prosperity, where all Vietnamese people have a prosperous and happy life, are supported to develop and enrich themselves; and contribute more and more to peace, stability and development in the region and the world, to the happiness and civilization of humanity. Those wishes and aspirations depend greatly on the youth force, in which the Army youth plays an important role, is the core and the leader. The Party, the State and the people are waiting and have great expectations for the breakthrough, the efforts to rise up, and "surpass themselves" of the Army youth.

The General Secretary suggested that young people in the Army need to study and cultivate revolutionary ethics; be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the Party, and filial to the people. Live honestly and responsibly towards themselves, their families, and society; always cultivate virtue, train their talents, study, and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style, "have little desire for material things" as Uncle Ho taught; always be self-aware, concerned about what to do, how to do it, and actively act to contribute to building our Army to become more and more mature and strong, our homeland and our country to become more and more prosperous. Have aspirations, strive to establish themselves, establish their careers, be proactive, creative, ready to be present in every difficult and arduous place, and ready to accept new tasks.

The General Secretary advised that the youth of the Army must build great ambitions based on the spirit of “self-confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, national pride,” creating spirit and intelligence, great and lasting values, placed in a high sense of responsibility to the Fatherland and the people, firmly protecting independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, national and ethnic interests, protecting the achievements of the revolution, and increasing Vietnam’s contribution to world peace, the global economy and human civilization. Great ambitions must be nurtured by great passions and concrete actions; great and meaningful goals for the Party, the Fatherland and the people; established by steadfast will, high discipline and strong courage; by the qualities and spirit of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers.”

In the new revolutionary period, the General Secretary noted that the youth of the Army must take the lead in implementing the Party's policies, first of all, building a lean, strong, modern Army, in national digital transformation, preventing and combating waste, and movements to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. At the same time, promote the spirit of initiative and creativity of the youth, help people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, develop the socio-economy, prevent and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, search and rescue, and volunteer activities; actively study, practice, conduct scientific research and apply scientific and technological achievements to military activities; master knowledge, master weapons and technical equipment; take the initiative and be creative to make breakthroughs in improving the quality of training, combat readiness and production labor...

Innovation in political and ideological education for military youth

For Party committees and organizations in the Army and authorities at all levels, the General Secretary requested to strongly innovate the work of recruiting, training, evaluating and using cadres, union members and youth in the Army; have policies to attract young people with good qualities and high qualifications to the Army; pay attention to discovering, nurturing, training and developing young military talents...

The General Secretary noted that it is necessary to continue to innovate the work of the Youth Union in the Army, especially through the implementation of revolutionary action movements of the youth. Activities to accompany, support and ensure that the work of the youth in the Army is truly a great school, a driving force for the youth to strive, practice, contribute and mature. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to the material and spiritual life of the Youth Union members and youth, especially in training units, combat readiness, remote areas, border areas, islands, performing important and special tasks; promptly grasp and resolve the legitimate thoughts and aspirations of the youth.

The General Secretary suggested actively bringing the Army youth into practice to carry out tasks in order to train and realize their aspirations for dedication. Strengthen coordination between the Army youth and the youth forces in the areas where they are stationed; carry out military foreign affairs and mass mobilization work well, contributing to building a solid relationship between the army and the people and consolidating a solid "people's heart position".

The General Secretary pointed out that it is necessary to promote and innovate political and ideological education, foster revolutionary ideals for young people in the Army; have specific plans to help young people in the Army self-study knowledge, practice skills, ensure knowledge and capacity to be ready to actively participate in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country; have specific strategies to promote the potential and youthfulness of young people who have completed their military service in the task of building and developing the socio-economy, enriching their families, villages and the country.

Young "veterans" must have the opportunity to continue to be the core force in production labor, the nucleus in all aspects of social life, and the strategic reserve force when the Fatherland needs it.

Promoting the glorious tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Army, with full enthusiasm, determination and strong will to rise up, with a desire to contribute and great ambitions, General Secretary To Lam believes that the youth of the entire army will do their utmost to contribute with the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people to maintain the achievements of the revolution, to realize the two strategic goals of 100 years under the leadership of the Party, 100 years of the founding of the country, forever worthy of the trust and expectations of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and the people of the whole country./.
