In the letter, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: "With the sentiment of comrades and close neighbors, on behalf of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, I respectfully send to Comrade President of the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen, leaders, cadres and party members of the Cambodian People's Party my warm congratulations on the great success of the 5th term election; especially the Cambodian People's Party has won a great victory in this election."
The General Secretary affirmed that the election results once again affirmed the role and position of the Cambodian People's Party under the leadership of Comrade.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed President of the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen to attend the Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos summit in September 2023.
The General Secretary firmly believes that with the achievements it has made, its rich experience and the support of the Cambodian people, the Cambodian People's Party led by President Hun Sen will continue to gain many new and greater achievements in the cause of protecting, building and developing Cambodia.
"Vietnam will continue to do its utmost together with Cambodia to preserve and foster the good Vietnam-Cambodia relationship to develop more deeply, practically and effectively in all fields, bringing benefits to the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world," General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized.
On February 25, Cambodia held the Senate election. This year's election saw the participation of four political parties, including Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party, Funcinpec Party, and two opposition parties.
Of the 62 Senate seats, 58 are elected at large by 125 lawmakers and more than 11,000 local officials.
By the afternoon of the same day, the ruling Cambodian People's Party declared victory.
According to Mr. Sok Eysan, spokesman for the Cambodian People's Party, the preliminary election results show that the party won at least 50/58 seats in the Senate, including one seat that Mr. Hun Sen ran for.
The party spokesman also confirmed that he would nominate Mr. Hun Sen as President of the Senate.
