Mr. Kim almost lost because of the tests
Compared to the team that started the match against Indonesia earlier (December 15), the starting personnel of the Vietnamese team last night (December 18) only had 3 players retained, including goalkeeper Nguyen Filip, midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan and Nguyen Quang Hai. There were 8 new positions including 3 central defenders Duy Manh, Viet Anh, Nguyen Thanh Binh, left defender Khuat Van Khang, right defender Vu Van Thanh, midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang, strikers Vi Hao and Dinh Thanh Binh. The defense line was completely replaced.
Most of the substituted positions did not complete their tasks. Left back Khuat Van Khang, center back Nguyen Thanh Binh, midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang, striker Dinh Thanh Binh were later replaced in the second half. Khuat Van Khang and Dinh Thanh Binh were too weak.

Khuat Van Khang made a serious mistake in Vietnam's loss to the Philippines. In this play, Khuat Van Khang headed the ball towards his team's penalty area, right in the middle, creating an opportunity for striker Jarvey Gayoso to receive the ball and shoot into Vietnam's net.
This is not the first time Khuat Van Khang has made serious mistakes when playing as a left-back. These mistakes appeared during the friendly matches of coach Kim Sang-sik's team before the AFF Cup. Even in the match against Laos on December 9 of the AFF Cup, Khuat Van Khang did not play well, but coach Kim Sang-sik continued to put his trust in the player who is playing for Viettel's The Cong Club. It can be seen that Khuat Van Khang's mistake of clearing the ball, then accidentally passing the ball from the sideline to the center is not in line with the normal playing mindset of a defender. Professional defenders always have the intention of clearing the ball as far away from the goal as possible, not the other way around. This is not too difficult to understand because Khuat Van Khang's forte is playing as an attacking midfielder.
Valuable experience
As for striker Dinh Thanh Binh, this player had 1 dangerous shot for the opponent in the first half, but that was too little. The rest of the time, Dinh Thanh Binh did not move well, had almost no connection with his teammates, due to poor ball control and inaccurate passing.
Former coach of the Vietnam national team, Mr. Phan Thanh Hung, commented: "I was quite surprised that Dinh Thanh Binh was kept on the field for quite a long time. He is strong, but his technique is limited. Dinh Thanh Binh has almost no ability to coordinate with his teammates around him. If Tien Linh had entered the field earlier, or Tuan Hai had replaced Thanh Binh's position earlier, the attacking coordination of the Vietnam national team would have been better."
Another experiment by coach Kim Sang-sik that almost caused the Vietnamese team to lose to the Philippines was that he changed the entire defense compared to the previous match, although this is an area where most teams in the world usually need a stable core. The defense is where teams around the world do not want their team to make mistakes.
Fortunately, the Vietnamese team did not lose to the Philippines. Fortunately, we had an equalizer in the 6th minute of extra time by Doan Ngoc Tan. This goal is very important, helping the spirit of the Vietnamese team not to be dragged down to a low level in the following matches. However, the big change in the lineup in the last match will be a great experience for the Vietnamese team. Surely luck will not repeat itself again for the Vietnamese team, so we are not allowed to take risks like in the last match.
Mr. Kim Sang-sik will not have much time to prepare for the match against Myanmar on December 21. This is a match that requires Mr. Kim to calculate extremely wisely, because if he makes one wrong move, all the efforts from the beginning of the AFF Cup group stage until now will be wasted.
