In 2024, the socio-economic development of the country in general and the industry and trade sector in particular will take place in a context where the world continues to have major and unpredictable fluctuations with many intertwined opportunities and challenges. The trend of de-globalization is rising, and protectionist policies are reappearing in many countries in many different forms.

On the morning of January 3, the Conference to summarize 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025 took place of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy.

However, global investment tends to shift strongly to the digital field, multinational companies in the digital field are growing rapidly and changing the nature of cross-border investment and trade.

Meanwhile, e-commerce continues to grow at nearly three times the rate of traditional commerce globally, contributing about 20% to total retail sales of goods and services by 2024. Southeast Asia continues to be the region with the highest growth rate of e-commerce and digital economy in the world.

Domestically, Vietnam's e-commerce continues to maintain an impressive growth rate of 18-25% per year. In 2024, the e-commerce market size will soon exceed the 25 billion USD mark, an increase of 20% compared to 2023, accounting for about 9% of the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue nationwide.

The proportion of e-commerce accounts for 2/3 of the value of Vietnam's digital economy. The growth rate of e-commerce and Vietnam's digital economy continues to grow steadily at double digits, ranking among the Top 10 countries with the fastest e-commerce growth rate in the world, creating momentum for digital economic development and leading digital transformation in businesses.

In addition to the achieved results, state management of e-commerce still faces difficulties and obstacles such as: Controlling sellers on e-commerce platforms; controlling counterfeit goods, fake goods, banned goods, goods infringing intellectual property rights, poor quality goods, etc.

With the results achieved, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy sets the goal of continuing to implement strategies more effectively and substantially. In particular, the focus is on completing institutional reform, legal policies on e-commerce through the development of specialized laws on e-commerce; the master plan for national e-commerce development for the period 2026-2030; continuing to coordinate with ministries, departments and branches to promote management, supervision and law enforcement in e-commerce...

In the coming time, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy will continue to improve the quality of personnel work in the unit, promote the role of mass organizations to well perform assigned political tasks, build an honest and active apparatus, serve people and businesses...
