Survey of rice-crop farming project in Khammouane province, Laos

On March 30, 2025, a delegation of Ca Mau province officials led by Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Ho Trung Viet visited a project to combine rice cultivation with giant freshwater prawn farming in Khammouane province, Lao People's Democratic Republic.

The delegation visited the project of rice cultivation combined with giant freshwater prawn farming in Nong Ping village, Nhom Ma Lat district.

The project of rice cultivation combined with giant freshwater prawn farming is implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau province, Vietnam in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Khammouane province, Laos. The project is implemented in Nong Ping village, Nhom Ma Lat district and Song Muong village, Nong Buk district, Khammouane province, with 21 households participating; the project scale is 20 hectares, implemented at 2 locations, each location is 10 hectares; 2 rice crops and 2 giant freshwater prawn crops are grown.

The project will be implemented from March 2024 to June 2025; the total cost is over 4 billion VND; of which, Ca Mau province provides non-refundable support of over 3.4 billion VND, and Khammouane province contributes over 577 million VND.

Ca Mau and Kham Muon provinces have had a long-standing friendly cooperative relationship. However, this is the first project in the economic cooperation between the two provinces.

Tomorrow (March 31), the two provinces of Ca Mau and Kham Muon will have a meeting to evaluate the results of this project.
