The workshop with the theme "Digital technology promotes green transformation: Opportunities to develop new economic models" was organized by the Center for Communication and Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment).
Currently, more than 140 countries, including Vietnam, have committed to or set Net Zero targets. Vietnam has developed Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43.5% compared to the Business-As-Usual (BAU) scenario with international support by 2030.
According to information at the workshop, Vietnam is one of the countries heavily affected by climate change, with phenomena such as rising sea levels, natural disasters and extreme weather increasing. Therefore, green investment and green finance are not only a trend but have become an important factor on the journey towards the Net Zero goal.
Mr. Doan Truong Giang - Deputy Director of the Center for Communication and Environment said that green transformation and digital transformation are two parallel processes that need to be closely linked together to maximize the potential to increase productivity and efficiency for businesses as well as economic activities.
Green investment and green financial markets are not only a responsibility, but also a great opportunity for sustainable development and building a low-carbon economy.
Attending the workshop, green development experts presented many papers such as: Circular economy serving the transformation of green and sustainable businesses; Developing green financial markets - current situation, challenges and opportunities for Vietnam; Towards Net zero - the role of financial institutions and policies for developing green financial markets - green investment in Vietnam...
Delegates attending the workshop said that Vietnam needs specific regulations to determine the support of digital technology for the green transition process.
In addition, there is a need for standard policies on the application of digital technology in the production process for green transformation, supporting investment in digital transformation, and contributing to the goal of green growth.
This process requires resources from the capital market such as green investment.
and green finance from different sectors, including Government, international donors, financial and credit institutions.
The workshop is expected to help relevant ministries, businesses and economic experts exchange directly, clarify and make transparent information on the application of digital technology to promote green transformation and effectively promote capital resources. Thereby creating momentum to promote the development of new economic models; especially for localities to attract investment, organizations and businesses to access and fully grasp relevant information to build appropriate and effective strategies and plans.
