On June 19, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 540/QD-TTg approving the project on Science Development and Application, Technology Transfer to Promote Circular Economy in Agriculture by 2030. Accordingly, the specific goal by 2030 is that at least 20% of scientific tasks in the agricultural sector will be researched, applied and transferred to serve the development of circular economy in agriculture...
Accordingly, many localities and people focus on applying circular economy in agriculture to help optimize production processes.
The National Agricultural Extension Center coordinates with localities and enterprises to implement many agricultural extension projects on the application of microbial products to produce organic fertilizers from straw, stubble and waste in livestock farming; organic vegetable and rice production to reduce fertilizer costs, increase economic efficiency compared to mass production... In particular, the model of applying mechanized straw collection services as raw materials for mushroom production, animal feed and organic fertilizer in some localities: Tien Giang, Hau Giang, Dong Thap.
Accordingly, building and developing a supply chain of mechanized services for collecting straw and stubble to produce straw mushrooms, organic fertilizers, and animal feed will contribute to increasing income from rice production by about 15% compared to mass production; a rice farming model that reduces emissions, serving the sustainable development of rice export raw material areas in: Can Tho, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Soc Trang and Tra Vinh.
In addition, there is a model of circular buffalo and beef cattle farming associated with product consumption linkage, implemented in: Thai Binh, Hoa Binh, Nam Dinh, Vinh Phuc, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, with the use of biological products to treat manure. Feed is made from agricultural by-products such as corn stalks, straw... processed and preserved by silage method. Therefore, the cost of feed is reduced, increasing economic efficiency by 10-15%. Livestock waste is composted with products, creating a source of organic fertilizer for use in cultivation, forming a cycle in agricultural production.
Circular economy is an inevitable trend for modern and sustainable agriculture. However, circular agricultural production still faces many difficulties due to the incomplete policy framework on circular economic development; production linkages along the value chain are still limited, many cooperatives are not operating effectively, leading to difficulties in investing, applying advanced technology and processes to production, especially circular production.
The dissemination of circular agricultural production in many places is still limited and there are no suitable solutions for each region, area, product group, farm scale and enterprise; there is a lack of highly qualified experts to develop a circular economy, helping to solve problems well, from the beginning to the end of the whole process.
The team of staff researching, applying and transferring technology to treat waste and by-products in agriculture is still limited. On the other hand, most businesses, farm owners and households still maintain the habit of exploiting resources to maximize output, while the amount of waste discarded after harvest is still large...
In order to implement the project "Developing science and application, transferring technology to promote circular economy in agriculture by 2030", the tasks and solutions proposed are to build and update the database system, information on applications, information technology solutions, digital technology associated with the circular economic model in agriculture; prioritize investment in research and development, creating technology, closed processes according to the value chain.
The project also focuses on building an agricultural extension program to transfer technologies for developing circular agriculture such as recycling technology, using by-products of rice production (straw, rice husks, bran) to create value-added products such as: fertilizers, animal feed, mushroom growing media, biological bedding, etc.
At the same time, develop a market development program for products applying circular economy in agriculture; organize promotion and trade promotion for products applying circular economy in agriculture; develop policies and institutions to support certification of circular agricultural products according to international and domestic standards and certifications for export; develop criteria and standards to link the circular agricultural production chain from planting, breeding to harvesting, preservation and processing to create a closed circle, integrating multiple values...
