The university's three main activities are education, innovative research and healing; this trinity makes the university an internationally recognized knowledge center.

Currently, the number of international students accounts for one-third of the more than 16,000 students, coming from 5 continents, studying at the school's six faculties. Of these, there are about 35 Vietnamese students studying at the school. The school has 3 language training programs: Hungarian, English and French.

The school not only trains doctors but also dentists, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, public health supervisors, health tourism managers, etc., many comprehensive health science training majors. In addition to Vietnamese students registering directly to study, through the scholarship program, they also have the opportunity to receive long-term scholarships or short-term courses.

During this visit to Vietnam, Semmelweis University established educational cooperation and initiated a student exchange program based on signed agreements with Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tibor Baloghdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Vietnam affirmed: The very effective coordination between the Hungarian Embassy in Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Training in the past time has created a favorable process to carry out enrollment for this scholarship program.

According to Ambassador Tibor Baloghdi, the visits and direct work are opportunities for the two sides to learn more about each other, understand each other's needs to make proposals and build better cooperative relationships.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc at the working session

Sharing his joy about the good cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary in general and the relationship between Semmelweis University and Vietnamese medical universities in particular, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc said: Hungary has very good quality education. Many Vietnamese students and postgraduates who were trained in Hungary have returned to their country and contributed to the socio-economic development process.

The most prominent cooperation in education and training between Vietnam and Hungary is the exchange of students through scholarships granted by the Hungarian Government to Vietnam. During the visit to Vietnam by the Hungarian Prime Minister (September 2017), the Hungarian side announced the granting of 200 annual scholarships to Vietnam at various training levels in different professions.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc, every year, the interest of students applying for scholarships in Hungary is very large, double the number of scholarships. That proves the attractiveness and high trust and confidence of Vietnamese students in Hungarian education and universities here.

Members of both sides at the reception

The Deputy Minister shared: In Vietnam, the medical industry has great appeal to students, but it is also a very difficult industry. With a population of about 100 million people in Vietnam, treating people requires high quality medical training. The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training always encourages cooperation between Vietnamese medical universities and Semmelweis University, Hungary.

Currently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training has been implementing educational cooperation programs between Vietnam and Hungary for the period 2022-2024, making full use of 200 Hungarian Government scholarships for Vietnam every year, and encouraging universities to cooperate bilaterally in all fields of education.

The cooperation agreement will expire on December 31, 2024. Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Training recommends that the two sides soon consider signing a cooperation agreement for the 2025-2027 period to have a legal basis for implementing cooperation activities for the new period.
