Losing to Indonesia, Vietnam team is at risk of falling out of the world's top 100

According to the world football ranking website Football Ranking , the Vietnamese team dropped 5 places after losing to Indonesia at the 2023 Asian Cup. The Vietnamese team ranked 94th in the world while their opponent ranked 146th.

The defeat to an opponent 50 places lower caused the Vietnamese team to lose 23.26 points, the largest number of points deducted by the Vietnamese men's football team in the past 5 years.

Previously, the Vietnamese team lost to Japan in the opening match of the 2023 Asian Cup group stage and was deducted 6.47 points. In total, coach Philippe Troussier's team was deducted 29.47 points after two matches and dropped to 99th place in the world.

If they continue to lose to the top team Iraq in the final match on January 24, the Vietnamese team is at risk of falling out of the world's top 100 (something that has never happened under coach Park Hang Seo), thereby setting an unprecedentedly bad milestone on the FIFA rankings after 64 months (5 years and 4 months, since November 2018).

Meanwhile, the victory over Vietnam helped Indonesia rise 4 places in the world rankings, from 146th to 142nd. The Thai team also jumped 9 places in the FIFA rankings, ranking 104th in the world with 1,194.97 points.
