Hanoi must urgently study solutions to reduce traffic congestion, including building Tu Lien, Hong Ha, and Me So bridges by 2024, the Prime Minister said at the inauguration ceremony of Vinh Tuy 2 bridge on the morning of August 30.

According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in recent times, Hanoi has implemented many solutions to synchronously invest in the transport infrastructure system in accordance with the planning until 2030, with a vision to 2050, in which Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge (phase 2) is one of the key transport projects.

The completed project will contribute to meeting the rapidly increasing travel demand between the capital city center and the northern and northeastern areas of the city; reduce traffic volume on Thanh Tri Bridge and Ring Road 3; and gradually complete Hanoi's traffic infrastructure system according to the approved plan.

To comprehensively develop the transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister requested Hanoi to complete the Master Plan for the Capital Construction to 2030 and Vision to 2050 and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval as a basis for implementation. The city needs to comprehensively study traffic connection solutions, especially intersections to reduce congestion, submit to the Government a report to the National Assembly for approval of the investment policy for Tu Lien Bridge, and soon start construction of this bridge and Hong Ha and Me So.

According to the Prime Minister, Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge was built in a context where the architecture must be consistent with Vinh Tuy 1 Bridge. The construction phase of Vinh Tuy 1 Bridge still faced many difficulties, so the architecture was not given priority. However, with the bridges built in the coming time, in addition to the quality of the construction, Hanoi needs to focus on aesthetics, so that "each bridge is a tourism product" serving the socio-economic development of the capital and the country.

Vinh Tuy phase 2 includes a bridge and approach road about 3.5 km long; the entire cross-section of the route is 19.25 m wide. The project started on January 9, 2021 with a total investment of more than VND 2,500 billion. After completing phase 2, Vinh Tuy (Vinh Tuy 1 and 2) became the bridge with the largest cross-section in Hanoi with 8 car lanes (40 m).

Currently, Hanoi has 8 bridges across the Red River including: Van Lang (Ba Vi - Viet Tri), Vinh Thinh, Thang Long, Nhat Tan, Long Bien, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy (phase 1 and phase 2), Thanh Tri. The projects are mainly invested by the Ministry of Transport, except for Vinh Tuy Bridge - phase 1 completed in 2010 and Vinh Tuy Bridge - phase 2 completed today, which are directly invested by Hanoi and implemented with the city budget.

According to the transportation planning to 2030, with a vision to 2050, the capital will have 10 more bridges across the Red River, including: Hong Ha, Me So (ring road 4), new Thang Long (ring road 3), Tu Lien, Vinh Tuy (phase 2), Thuong Cat, Ngoc Hoi (ring road 3.5), Tran Hung Dao bridge/tunnel, Phu Xuyen bridge, Van Phuc (North-South axis road connecting to Vinh Phuc province).
