According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his wife will pay an official visit to Vietnam and co-chair the 46th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee from January 6-7.

Previously, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit.
At the meeting, the two Prime Ministers expressed their delight at the progress in bilateral cooperation over the past time, which has brought benefits to the people of both countries. The two sides pledged to work closely to maintain and strengthen the good relationship between Laos and Vietnam, passing it on to future generations.
According to Lao News Agency, the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam is a valuable asset, the law of existence and development of both countries, a vital factor, an important resource to protect and develop the country in each country, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The two Prime Ministers also agreed to promote the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos Strategic Cooperation Agreement for the 2021-2030 period, the Laos-Vietnam Bilateral Cooperation Agreement for the 2021-2023 period, and signed agreements and plans in many fields.
The two sides agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges at all levels through all channels to consolidate the special and close political relationship between the two countries, closely coordinate in ensuring social order and safety, enhance security-defense cooperation and prevent and combat epidemics, and combat cross-border crimes, especially drug crimes.
The two sides affirmed that they will make more efforts to further promote bilateral economic cooperation and connectivity, while supporting each other in building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with practical, deep and effective international integration.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone said Laos will continue to closely coordinate and support Vietnam in regional and international issues.
