This is considered a pioneering move for a television documentary, marking an effort to innovate the way to reach the public, especially young audiences who have little access to the documentary genre.

According to TFS, a positive sign is that the film attracted a large audience. They went to the cinema not only to watch, but also to live in the atmosphere of the past decades. The black and white documentary footage, the stories told in the real voices of living witnesses, mixed with modern editing, sophisticated music... brought an unexpected experience to many young people.
There were viewers who were only in their twenties, but were moved when they learned about how the place they were living had a difficult start, how it had broken through, and how it had "overcome the waves" step by step to achieve its current appearance.
In particular, after each screening, the audience will have the opportunity to interact directly with the production crew, director, screenwriter, cameraman, and researcher to share their journey of finding characters, restoring old materials, choosing storytelling methods, and maintaining an honest, emotional, and humane spirit.

The exchanges became a lively space to approach history, arousing new emotions and awareness for the audience, especially the young generation who are rediscovering their identity in the modern urban flow. Many audiences were surprised when Vuot Song invested heavily in images, graphic design, music and modern film editing.
Also according to the TFS representative, after April 26, the program of screening the film Overcoming Waves at the theater will have additional extended screenings and thematic activities such as: selective screenings of outstanding episodes, with live narration from the director or insiders; short discussions with experts, journalists, and young researchers revolving around hot topics such as urban development, community memory, heritage, and innovation; screenings exclusively for students, universities, and youth organizations; outdoor screenings, schoolyards, and libraries combined with discussions, bringing documentaries "into life".

Produced by TFS over nearly 2 years, Vuot Song is a massive documentary project consisting of 37 episodes, recreating 3 major stages in the development journey of Ho Chi Minh City.
Period 1975 - 1985: Post-war period, efforts to rebuild the city, overcoming numerous economic, social and people's life difficulties.
Period 1986 - 1999: The period of innovation, when the city began to transform, open up, attract investment, and reshape the urban landscape.
Phase 2000 - 2025: The period of strong integration, technological development, rapid urbanization and city people entering a new era.
Each episode is not only a historical documentary, but also a story that breathes life with real characters, real memories, and a sincere perspective on the profound changes that have shaped the diverse, dynamic, and aspirational Ho Chi Minh City of today.
The film is being broadcast at 7:35 a.m. on HTV9 and 8 p.m. daily on HTV and TFS digital platforms.
