Chu town was established on the basis of a natural area of 251.55 km2, a population of 127,881 people and 10 commune-level administrative units of Luc Ngan district including: Chu, Hong Giang, Thanh Hai (after adjusting administrative boundaries), Kien Thanh, Kien Lao, Tru Huu, Quy Son, Phuong Son, My An, Nam Duong.
