Households participating in the challenge from the "Courage to escape poverty" program
The program “Bravely escape poverty” has received the attention and support of Venerable Thich Thien Loi (abbot of Khanh Hoa pagoda) and has been continuously and successfully organized for 3 years, with the companionship and support of volunteer groups. Through that, many social security activities have been supported by the program, such as: Building Great Unity houses, building rural bridges, giving charity gifts, granting scholarships and health insurance cards to students... Especially clearing bank debts, supporting business capital for the poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged people to escape poverty.
The Great Unity houses were newly built or repaired, providing the poor with stable housing, a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping them have more faith in life. Rural bridges were built, eliminating traffic barriers, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, trade, and develop the economy. Scholarships or health insurance cards were awarded to poor students, helping them have the opportunity to study and receive health care. All of these are living proof of the humane values brought by the "Courage to escape poverty" program.
According to Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thoai Son District, Duong Hoa Nha, the "Courage to escape poverty" program was organized for the 4th time. Thoai Son District was very happy to be chosen to organize this meaningful program twice. First, the third "Courage to escape poverty" program was chosen to be implemented in Oc Eo town (Thoai Son district). At the program, 6 poor households in Oc Eo town and 3 communes of Vinh Chanh, Vinh Khanh, Phu Thuan were supported with 30 million VND to build economic models, escape poverty, and stabilize their lives.
In addition, 6 families overcame the challenge by doing the work they do every day within the prescribed time. The winning team was lucky to choose sponsored gifts worth 3 - 5 million VND. Up to now, the 6 supported households have risen out of poverty. At the program, Hai Tue Charity Fund and Phuoc An Pagoda presented symbolic boards of support for building 2 new Great Unity houses (50 million VND/house) and repairing 2 Great Unity houses (25 million VND/house) for poor and near-poor households in Thoai Son district.
Returning to Thoai Son for the second time, the "Courage to escape poverty" program (4th time) was held in Phu Hoa town. The program was organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thoai Son district in coordination with Khanh Hoa pagoda, Lien Hoa pagoda, Nhu Ngoc Volunteer Group (Long Xuyen city), Hai Tue Volunteer Group (Ho Chi Minh city). Accordingly, the program presented symbolic plaques to build 10 new houses, repair 10 houses for 20 poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in Phu Hoa, Nui Sap, Oc Eo towns and My Phu Dong, Vinh Trach, Vinh Chanh, Vinh Khanh, Phu Thuan communes (Thoai Son district) and 1 household in Phu Hung commune (Phu Tan district).
Specifically, the organizers supported 60 million VND/house for newly built households and 30 million VND/house for repaired households. In addition, households that had to overcome adversity by playing corn-shelling games within the specified time would receive gifts from sponsors. Joy followed joy when families also participated in spinning the "lucky ball" to choose sponsors to provide additional capital for business, implement livelihood models, and support families to escape poverty. Accordingly, 18 households were supported with an additional 11 million VND/household, 2 households were supported with an additional 12 million VND/household.
As a poor household in the locality, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Mai (born in 1976, residing in Thanh Nien hamlet, Phu Hoa town) could not hide her emotion when the local government selected her to participate in the program "Brave to escape poverty" (4th time). "Because of the difficult life, my 3 children and I have to work hard to make a living far away from home. Working as hired laborers, my income is not much. The house of my children and I has also become dilapidated over the years. I used to think that rebuilding the house to return to my hometown to live and do business was just a distant dream. But unexpectedly, today, that dream has come true. Thanks to the local government and the program "Brave to escape poverty", I was supported to rebuild my dilapidated house and was also given more capital to do business and develop the economy. I promise to use the capital supported by benefactors for the right purpose" - Ms. Ngoc Mai confided.
“Courage to escape poverty” is a meaningful program, bringing practical values to the community. The program will continue its journey of spreading love, lighting up faith and hope for those in difficult lives, contributing to building a better society.
