When you come to Na Pan village, Trung Hoa commune (Ngan Son), ask about Mr. Ban Phu Quy (born in 1993), everyone still calls him "Quy dong rieng" and everyone will know. Mr. Quy is the "pioneer" who brought the dong rieng plant to help alleviate poverty for the people here.

Mr. Ban Phu Quy said that more than 10 years ago, after trying some crops but they were not suitable and the yield was not high, he intended to switch to other crops. He went to learn about growing and producing cassava in Phuc Loc commune (Ba Be). When he had the basic knowledge, he went by motorbike to Nguyen Binh district (Cao Bang) to buy 100 kg of cassava tubers to try planting. After a few months of planting, he harvested nearly 7 tons of tubers. Then he propagated and gradually expanded the area on the high mountains in Na Pan.

Realizing that selling powder is more profitable than selling tubers, and besides, he can also take advantage of the waste from the tubers to make fertilizer, reducing part of the cost of buying fertilizer and contributing to cleaning the environment, in 2018, Mr. Quy decided to sell 4 buffaloes, the property divided by his parents when he moved out, along with 50 million VND borrowed from the district's Social Policy Bank and borrowed more from relatives to buy a tubers grinding machine worth more than 100 million VND.
Since then, Mr. Quy's family's cassava roots no longer depend on traders but are ground into powder for sale. The consumer market is cooperatives that produce and process vermicelli in and outside the province. The quality of the powder he produces is highly appreciated by the establishments, producing delicious vermicelli products, meeting the needs of customers.
Na Pan is a village with many difficulties in Trung Hoa commune. Previously, people mainly grew tobacco, corn, and rice, which brought low income. Understanding that, Mr. Quy mobilized people to switch from ineffective crops to growing arrowroot. He supported seeds, fertilizers, and guaranteed product consumption for people. Therefore, the area of arrowroot cultivation in the village has increased day by day. In 2025, the area of arrowroot cultivation in Na Pan village will be over 15 hectares.
To meet market demand and create jobs for local people, in 2022, Mr. Ban Phu Quy established Phu Quy Starch Cooperative with 07 members. To date, the Cooperative has grown to 17 members, the main business is growing arrowroot and processing starch for sale to the market. From growing and processing starch, in 2024 alone, after deducting expenses, the Cooperative earned nearly 500 million VND. At the same time, it creates jobs and income for many households in the village thanks to growing arrowroot.
Bach Thong is one of the districts with many bright spots in the model of young people doing good business. Through the orientation and propaganda work of the Youth Union, the spirit of self-reliance, self-reliance, and the desire to get rich in each member and youth has been aroused. The whole district has many economic development models led by young people. A typical example is the model of producing fragrant green pumpkin tea bags of Mr. Ha Thiem Thuan in Na Po village, Quan Ha commune, bringing in a good income for his family.

In 2019, Mr. Thuan quit his job at a company in Hanoi and returned to his hometown to start a business with a deep processing model of fragrant green squash. In 2023, he established Phja Food Company Limited. Currently, the product "Ba Be Fragrant Pumpkin Tea" in filter bags has been sold locally, at agricultural product sales points in the province and marketed on social networking platforms such as Facebook, Tiktok... On average, each month, the Company sells more than 2,000 boxes of pumpkin tea, with a selling price of 60,000 VND/box; creating regular jobs for 03 workers with an income of about 04 million VND/person/month.
In 2024, the company's "Pumpkin Tea Bag" product achieved 3-star OCOP product. Mr. Thuan confided: "There is no standard startup plan for immediate success. I just learn from experience as I go. Be bold and believe in yourself, you will definitely get worthy results."

Along with the typical models mentioned above, currently the whole Bac Kan province has many youth economic models that have been operating effectively such as: Ecotourism model combining salmon and sturgeon farming in Pu Lau of the salmon and sturgeon cooperative in Pu Lau (Ba Be); developing Ba Be lake tourism of the Ba Be Green Tourism Cooperative (Ba Be); developing community tourism of the Na Na Cooperative (Ngan Son); planting and processing yellow flower tea of the Nghia Ta agricultural and forestry cooperative (Cho Don); producing organic vegetables, tubers and fruits in greenhouses of the Dai Ha Cooperative (Bach Thong)...

According to the Bac Kan Provincial Youth Union, the biggest difficulty for the youth start-up movement in Bac Kan is the limited scale of cooperatives and youth cooperatives, leading to low capital mobilization, small-scale and fragmented production; access to technology and innovation, application of technology for rural youth is still weak; the implementation of movements and programs to accompany youth in accessing advanced science and technology is still uneven in many aspects, especially in remote areas. In addition, the number of rural youth supported in economic development and start-ups is still small, the spread is not high...

To overcome this situation, in the coming time, Bac Kan Provincial Youth Union will continue to support, connect and encourage young people to start businesses; at the same time, deploy and advise on mechanisms and policies to support young people in economic development, especially advising on the establishment of a Youth Start-up Support Fund.
The movement of economic development, self-reliance, and career establishment to help each other reduce poverty among young people is a meaningful movement that has come into reality. Thereby, it affirms that the Youth Union is one of the important forces, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the province./.
