80 years ago, Chau Trung Vuong (Chau Cho Ra) was born in the context of the provisional People's Committee, the first district-level government, during the height of the uprising against Japan to save the country. By early 1942, the Viet Minh movement had spread to all localities. At Cao Bang Base, 19 Southern Advance volunteer teams were established and organized to immediately carry out their missions. From here, the Viet Minh movement developed strongly in all localities. The Southern Advance route, commanded by comrade Vo Nguyen Giap, passed through the districts of Hoa An and Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang province; Ngan Son, Cho Ra, Cho Don, and the assembly point at the top of Pu Co hill in Ban Bang village, Nghia Ta commune, Cho Don district, Bac Kan province.

In early 1945, the world war entered its final phase. In Asia, Japanese fascism was being seriously threatened by the Allies. In Indochina, the French colonialists and Japanese fascists had increasingly fierce conflicts, leading to the event of March 9, 1945, when Japanese fascists launched a coup against France with the ambition of monopolizing Indochina. After this event, the Central Party Standing Committee met in Dinh Bang (Tu Son - Bac Ninh) chaired by comrade Truong Chinh, General Secretary of the Party. The conference determined that the enemy of our people at this time was Japanese fascism. The Party determined that this was the pre-uprising period and launched a high-level movement to fight against Japan and save the country as a premise for a general uprising when the opportunity came.

In the heroic spirit of the whole nation fighting against Japan and saving the country, a liberation army unit commanded by comrade Vo Nguyen Giap, after mobilizing the People to seize power in Kim Ma commune, Nguyen Binh district (Cao Bang), moved down to surround Ngan Son district (Bac Kan). On March 21, Ngan Son was the first district of Bac Kan province to be liberated, strongly encouraging the revolutionary spirit of the people of the Cho Ra ethnic groups to rise up and seize power. In the face of the new and extremely favorable development of the revolution, comrade Vo Nguyen Giap, commander of the Liberation Army in Cho Ra, decided to establish the revolutionary government of Cho Ra district and communes.

To implement the above decision, on March 30, 1945, at a flat field, under the lush foliage of ancient Coi trees along the Nang River in Phieng Chi village, Thuong Giao commune. Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap chaired a solemn rally with the participation of a large number of people of Cho Ra ethnic groups in a very bustling atmosphere, with red flags flying all over the area. Here, Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap announced the decision to establish the Provisional People's Committee of Chau Trung Vuong (Chau Cho Ra). This was the first district-level revolutionary government in the climax of the resistance movement against the Japanese to save the country in 1945.

Promoting revolutionary tradition, uniting to build a rich and beautiful Ba Be

After nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation cause, Ba Be's appearance has increasingly improved. Up to now, the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities has been improved. The political security situation is stable, social order and safety are maintained. The leadership role of the Party Committee and the district government has been increasingly strengthened, and the great solidarity of the people has been expanded.

Before 2018, Ba Be was still one of the poorest districts in Bac Kan province and the whole country according to Resolution 30a of the Government. With many suitable solutions, promoting the potential and strengths of the locality, strongly transforming the structure of crops and livestock, taking advantage of State support resources and promoting internal strength of the people, by March 7, 2018, Ba Be district was recognized as escaping poverty.

The agricultural and forestry economic sector has a high growth rate, ensuring food security, the forest planting area has increased rapidly, initially forming a number of commodity production areas, contributing significantly to the hunger eradication and poverty reduction program and promoting rural development. The total annual grain output has increased, reaching more than 29,560 tons by 2024, with average food per capita reaching 588 kg/year. The forest coverage rate has reached 67.5%. The budget revenue has so far reached 54 billion VND, 54 times higher than in 1997. The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has been implemented quite effectively. In the period of 2021-2025, the whole district has 48 OCOP products with 3 stars, reaching 120% of the plan. Some products through the program have become valuable economic goods, well received by the market such as: My Phuong tea, fragrant green squash, dong vermicelli, dried buffalo meat, etc. Total retail sales of goods to date have reached nearly 700 billion VND, an increase of 454 billion VND compared to 2015.

The whole district has 48 agricultural products certified by competent authorities as 3-star OCOP products.

Trade and service activities continue to develop, meeting the production and consumption needs of the people; trade promotion activities are promoted; households and individuals gradually apply information technology, digital technology, participate in e-commerce platforms, use social networks to promote local products. The district's tourism industry has many changes, bringing good income to the people... The number of visitors to Ba Be tourism increased from 8,840 (in 2002) to more than 170,000 in 2024, with revenue of 28.4 billion VND. In the first 2 months of 2025, the number of visitors to Ba Be reached 115,338, with revenue of nearly 4 billion VND.

Speaking at the 80th Anniversary of Chau Trung Vuong (Chau Cho Ra) on the morning of March 28, comrade Ma Thi Cu, Vice Chairman of Ba Be District People's Committee affirmed: The results achieved in recent years by Ba Be district are comprehensive in all fields, which demonstrates the great efforts and striving of the entire Party Committee and people of all ethnic groups in the district.
