(CLO) Hundreds of Chinese nationals rescued from online scam centers in Myanmar were repatriated to their home country via Thailand on Thursday (March 6, 2025). Thailand said it aims to repatriate 1,500 workers per week.
Thailand, Myanmar and China have teamed up in recent weeks to clear illegal online scam complexes along the Thai-Myanmar border where thousands of foreign workers, mostly Chinese nationals, are working.

Under pressure from Beijing, Myanmar has moved to crack down on some of these complexes, releasing some 7,000 workers from more than two dozen countries.
About 600 Chinese citizens were repatriated from Myanmar via Thailand two weeks ago. Last week, the three countries held talks in Bangkok to arrange more repatriation flights.
On Thursday (March 6), Thai media broadcast footage of hundreds of Chinese workers being bused from Myanmar and boarding planes to China at Mae Sot airport. Thai border guards later said 456 Chinese nationals were repatriated on six China Southern chartered flights.
Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Nikorndej Balankura added that “another group of Chinese nationals” were also repatriated on Thursday, but did not disclose the specific number.
