(Dan Tri) - Tet is the time when every Vietnamese person, no matter where they live, feels excited and looks forward to the day of reunion with family and friends and enjoying traditional dishes.
In the bustling atmosphere of the last days of the Year of the Dragon, the Vietnamese community in Poland was honored to welcome Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and delegation to attend the Spring Homeland 2025 program held on January 17 at the Warsaw Presidential Hotel.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his emotion and thanked the people for giving him and the delegation an unforgettable memory: celebrating Vietnamese Tet in the homeland of Frederick Chopin, Maria Curie, and Nicolaus Copernicus.
The Vietnamese community in Poland has been celebrating Tet together for many years. Many Polish people are curious and often ask how Vietnamese people celebrate Tet and why Vietnamese people attach such importance to Tet.
On the eve of the Lunar New Year, on January 25, many Polish people in Ochota district attended the traditional New Year with the Vietnamese community. The program called "Journey to Vietnam through Culture and Cuisine" brought a vibrant atmosphere with special performances, a cozy atmosphere with bold Vietnamese decorations and through traditional dishes with the flavor of Vietnamese Tet.
From January 30 to February 2, community Tet celebrations will also take place in the Śródmieście district, where a large number of Vietnamese people live. These events have helped the Vietnamese community in Poland to integrate sustainably.
Ms. Ngoc Tram, a Vietnamese living in Poland for more than 30 years, said that like many other overseas Vietnamese, her family still tries to preserve the customs of Tet: wrapping banh chung together, preparing a year-end meal to worship ancestors, displaying a tray of five fruits with incense and flowers on the altar, decorating the house neatly, filled with the flavor of Tet. On New Year's Eve, after gathering around the family meal, the whole family will go to the pagoda together to pray for good luck for the new year and watch fireworks.
For her, Tet away from home, even though she cannot return, the love and attachment to her homeland is always present. Those are the good wishes sent through text messages, phone calls, and the dream of a reunion day.
More than 30 years later, Ms. Tram still looks back to her homeland Vietnam and wants to preserve its traditional beauty. Although her two children were born and raised in Poland, they both speak Vietnamese fluently and love traditional musical instruments.
