The group of revolutionary soldiers who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy in Kon Tum Prison were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

On the morning of September 25, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Kon Tum province held a ceremony to receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces for a group of revolutionary soldiers who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy at Kon Tum Prison.

Kon Tum Prison was the earliest place to detain political prisoners in the Central Highlands region, built by the French colonialists from 1915-1917. In 1930, the French colonialists began to bring political prisoners from other places to detain here with the plot of isolating political prisoners from the revolutionary movement in the lowlands, while forcing them to do hard labor and eat poor food to gradually kill and wear out the prisoners.

In June 1930, comrade Ngo Duc De, a party member arrested during the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, was the first political prisoner to be transferred from Vinh prison (Nghe An) to be detained here. From December 1930 to March 1931, the number of political prisoners transferred to Kon Tum prison reached nearly 300 people.

Here, comrade Ngo Duc De promoted revolutionary spirit and creativity, overcame the strict supervision of the enemy, found ways to propagate and build revolutionary bases within the enemy, inspired and enlightened revolutionary ideology in Huynh Dang Tho (Doi Tho), Huynh Lieu (cai Lieu), Nguyen Cu (cai Cu); trained, tested and on behalf of the organization, successively admitted the above comrades into the Communist Party of Vietnam.

At the end of September 1930, the Party members unanimously established the first Communist Party cell at Kon Tum Prison, called the Binh Party Cell, the first Communist Party cell in the Northern Central Highlands. The birth of the Binh Party Cell marked the moment when the Party's revolutionary ideological "seeds" were officially "planted" in Kon Tum homeland, laying the foundation for the birth of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee.

One of the historical events reflecting the resilient fighting spirit of communist prisoners against the brutal repression of French colonialism was the Bloody Struggle that took place on December 12, 1931. The struggle demonstrated the bravery and indomitable spirit of communist soldiers against the enemy's brutal bayonets and guns; it demonstrated the will and aspiration to rise up to gain freedom, to fight for independence for the nation, for the fatherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Tuan expressed his deep gratitude and respectfully bowed before the souls of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the two bloody struggles, the hunger strike in particular, and the communist soldiers who sacrificed their lives while imprisoned in Kon Tum Prison in general...

The Party Committee, army and people of all ethnic groups in Kon Tum are steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism, determined to continue building a clean and strong Party Committee; consolidating and promoting the strength of the great solidarity bloc of ethnic groups; effectively managing and exploiting the resources, potentials and advantages of the province; improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
