This morning, December 19, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province organized a traditional meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army on December 22 (1944 - 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day on December 22 (1989 - 2024).

Speaking at the program, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Long Hai emphasized: Quang Tri, the land likened to a heavy shoulder pole with two ends, is the historical fulcrum of the long march to defend the country. In nearly half a century, the country has faced the two most ferocious enemies of the 20th century, for more than 20 years Quang Tri has been the border, one of the fiercest battlefields, witnessing the resilient fighting and heroic sacrifice of countless compatriots and soldiers across the country.
Born and raised in a land rich in revolutionary traditions, with a particularly important strategic position in the defense of Military Region 4 and the whole country, the provincial military force has always promoted its heroic tradition, constantly developed and grown, has the ability to coordinate operations, operate independently, and together with the army and people of the whole country, establish resounding feats.
Through the resistance wars, Quang Tri has more than 120,000 people with revolutionary contributions who have been confirmed. Of these, more than 2,857 mothers were awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother; 19,000 martyrs; 12,000 war invalids and people enjoying policies like war invalids; over 3,000 sick soldiers. The armed forces and people of all ethnic groups in the province were honored to receive many noble titles from the Party, State and army such as: Third-class Military Exploit Medal; First, Second and Third-class Fatherland Protection Medal; Hero of the People's Armed Forces...
Promoting the fine traditions of the Vietnam People's Army, in peacetime, Uncle Ho's soldiers are always present as a symbol of dedication and sacrifice. They are present in remote areas, border areas or islands, difficult and dangerous places to protect each strip of land, each sacred wave.

The provincial military force has always played a core and pioneering role in the task of clearing mines and explosives during the war to "restore peace to the land"; doing well the work of the military rear policy and the movement of "Repaying gratitude", collecting the remains of martyrs on battlefields at home and abroad.
Mobilizing tens of thousands of cadres and soldiers, thousands of vehicles and equipment, closely coordinating with functional forces to join hands with Party committees, authorities and people to do a good job of preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics, searching and rescuing, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, and building new rural areas.
Military units have closely coordinated with the police and other forces to maintain political security, social order and safety, build a national defense posture associated with a people's security posture and a national border defense posture, build a solid defense area, and create a favorable environment for socio-economic development.
In particular, in recent times, it has proactively advised the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Provincial People's Committee to lead and successfully implement military and defense tasks; organized defense zone and civil defense drills at the provincial level with many innovations and creativity, which were comprehensively evaluated as excellent by the military region.

The country is entering a new historical period, a new era - an era of development, an era of prosperity, an era of national growth. To effectively carry out the tasks in the current period, the army and the provincial armed forces are requested to strengthen solidarity, unity, initiative and creativity.
Continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously organize the implementation of resolutions, conclusions, strategies, and projects of the Party, State, and army on military and defense tasks. Promote the core role, promptly advise the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee to lead and direct the building of a strong national defense, build a solid defense zone; combine the consolidation of national defense and security with economic, cultural and social development.
Innovate and improve training quality, combat readiness and combat strength; build a "lean, compact and strong" force; focus on the task of building strong communes, wards and towns, build a people's position as the key, ensure training requirements, combat readiness and carry out local political tasks.
Pay attention to the material and spiritual life of soldiers, especially the standing force, carry out good military rear policies, and contribute to the successful completion of assigned tasks.
Coordinate and cooperate closely with the provincial police force and functional forces to grasp and closely follow the situation to promptly detect and thoroughly resolve problems arising at the grassroots level, especially in key areas, so that the army and police can truly be the "sword and shield". In the immediate future, ensure absolute safety and best prepare conditions for the successful organization of branch and party congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term, towards the 18th Provincial Party Congress.
Next, there was a political and artistic program with the theme "Forever the military march". The program was organized by the Provincial Military Command in coordination with Quang Tri Radio and Television, including 3 parts: "The heroic spirit of 80 years of the Vietnam People's Army", "Forever the heroic song" and "Marching under the military flag".
