These days, Phu Tho is resplendent with banners, flags, and slogans celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024). Joining the group of visitors to the Hung Vuong Museum, we listened to tour guide Nguyen Thi Nhan introduce in detail the precious documents, images, and artifacts from the resistance wars in the homeland of the Hung Kings.
Students of Tan Dan Secondary School, Viet Tri City visit and learn history at Hung Vuong Museum.
During the resistance war against French colonialism (1945-1954), Phu Tho was both the direct rear base of the Northwest and Viet Bac, and the place where many campaigns took place with glorious victories such as Song Lo, Tu Vu, Tram Than... During the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954, the army and people of Phu Tho were proud to have made great contributions with the whole country to create the historic Dien Bien Phu victory. During the resistance war against American imperialism, with the spirit of "all for the front line, all to defeat the American invaders", Phu Tho mobilized the highest human and material resources to support the Southern front line, making an important contribution to the cause of fighting for independence, liberating the South, and unifying the country.
At the exhibition system, Hung Vuong Museum introduces thousands of artifacts with modern, scientific, rich arrangement and organization, applying advanced technology, including many artifacts and documents in the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism. The exhibition space of images, documents, and historical artifacts about the heroic battles of Phu Tho army and people that created the victories of Song Lo, Tu Vu, Tram Than helps people and tourists go back to the past. In the fall and winter of October 1947, the French army was preparing to attack Viet Bac with an unprecedented modern force of 20,000 elite troops, 800 motor vehicles, 40 airplanes, 40 canoes, and warships. The French went up the Lo River determined to conquer Viet Bac from the gateway of Doan Hung, Phu Tho but were completely defeated by the strength of our army and people. The victory of Song Lo made the people of the whole country proud, the pincers surrounding the western part of the French base of Viet Bac were broken.
Seeing with his own eyes and seeing historical artifacts in the exhibition space of Hung Vuong Museum, veteran Lai The Ky, Chi Dam commune, Doan Hung district shared his feelings as if he was reliving a heroic time of the nation: "The heroic past has now become the strength and symbol of the national cultural tradition. As the previous generation, I am very happy to witness the image of today's young generation returning to their roots, witnessing with my own eyes the heroic history of their ancestors' struggles through each artifact and image displayed at the Museum".
Valuable historical artifacts such as: Tank number 377 of the T54 type, MIG aircraft with the symbols 5023 and 5057, a French colonial ship sunk by our army or the collection of memorabilia of the People's Armed Forces Hero Le Quang Bien, Lien Phuong commune, Ha Hoa district; Hero of the People's Armed Forces Hoang Van Luong, Tan Phu commune, Tan Son district; Hero of the People's Armed Forces Bui Dinh Cu, Tu Xa commune, Lam Thao district... are the highlights of the Museum. In the outdoor display area, 2 MIG aircraft with the symbols 5023 and 5057 of the 921 Sao Do Air Force Regiment (the first fighter air force regiment of Vietnam) that took off in the sky of Hanoi - Phu Tho to protect the beloved homeland still stand tall and proud with many resounding victories, marking the mark of Hero of the People's Armed Forces Ngo Duy Thu and Hero of the People's Armed Forces Pham Phu Thai. Aircraft 5057 piloted by comrade Ngo Duy Thu shot down 4 American planes (3 F4s, 1 F105); aircraft 5023 piloted by comrade Pham Phu Thai shot down 4 American F4 planes.
Duong Thu Ngan, a student at Hung Vuong University, shared: “The artifacts displayed at the Museum are an opportunity for today’s young generation to better understand the history and sacrifices of their ancestors. From there, they will appreciate, cherish and promote the precious traditions of the nation through each document, artifact and image displayed here.”
The war has long gone, but each artifact, document, and memorabilia of the soldiers always carries its own story. Displayed solemnly at the Hung Vuong Museum, it not only reminds the next generations of a glorious and heroic period of the nation's history, but also serves as a message from the previous generation to future generations about the spirit of patriotism and the struggle to defend the country.
