Previously, Chinese airlines continuously opened flights to Khanh Hoa with about 15 flights/week.
Go to China to promote tourism
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Director of Khanh Hoa Province’s Department of Tourism, said that travel agencies are coordinating with airlines to increase the frequency of direct flights from China to Khanh Hoa. Thereby, the Chinese market will be boosted in the coming time.
It is expected that this March, Khanh Hoa will organize a delegation to promote Nha Trang tourism in cities in China. In addition, businesses are building many new tourism products, focusing on quality to increase attractiveness, extend the length of stay, and increase revenue from Chinese visitors.
In Quang Ninh province, by 2024, the province aims to attract at least 17 million tourists, including 3 million international visitors. Taking advantage of having both land and sea borders with China, the province has proactively promoted tourism activities and received many positive signals.
Typically, the Zhao Shang Yi Dun cruise ship - the first international cruise ship to dock at Ha Long International Cruise Port in the early spring of Giap Thin 2024 - brought 600 tourists from China. Previously, Ha Long International Cruise Port welcomed the international cruise ship Dream Cruise belonging to Chengzhen Cruise Ship. This is the first time this ship has returned to Ha Long since the pandemic, bringing 400 international tourists, mainly Chinese tourists, on the route Sanya (China) - Ha Long. At a recent meeting with a delegation of Chinese airlines, Mr. Cao Tuong Huy - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province - affirmed that the province will provide maximum support for proposals related to opening flights from Van Don International Airport to the Chinese market.
In order to promote the exploitation of the Chinese tourist market through the border gate, Mong Cai City (Vietnam) and Dongxing City (China) have also agreed to allow tourists to clear customs through Mong Cai International Border Gate, Bac Luan II Bridge area, parallel to Bac Luan I Bridge area, thereby stimulating tourism between the two border localities.

Diversify products so customers spend more
Ms. Doan Thi Thanh Tra, Director of Marketing Department, Saigontourist Travel Service Company, said that it is expected that from the beginning of the second quarter of 2024, the number of Chinese tourists coming to Vietnam via sea routes operated by the company will increase sharply and the outlook is positive this year.
"The incoming customer segment is also a customer segment with better income and spending, so the company focuses on exploiting products that enhance the experience. Previously, customers came mainly to shop, enjoy cuisine..., now there will be more routes to explore and visit destinations in Ho Chi Minh City and connecting routes to the provinces. Some products serving Chinese customers also increase the length of stay and relaxation at hotels in the Saigontourist Group system in the MICE customer segment (tourism combined with conferences and seminars)" - Ms. Thanh Tra said.
Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, emphasized that China is one of the city's large and important tourist markets, along with other markets such as Korea, Japan, etc. Ho Chi Minh City is a council member of the Asia Pacific Tourism Organization (TPO) and regularly uses the council's channels to strongly promote to Chinese tourists and other Northeast Asian markets.
"The top tourist markets to Ho Chi Minh City this year are still expected to be South Korea, Japan, China... For these markets, in addition to advertising and promotion, the tourism industry focuses on product development after the period when tourists have arrived and become more familiar with them, such as cuisine, shopping, and enhancing experiences," said Mr. Hoa.
Chinese tourist market recovers impressively
On February 29, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism announced that the number of international tourists to Vietnam in February 2024 reached over 1.5 million, an increase of 1.3% compared to January 2024, and an increase of 64.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
At this time, South Korea continues to be the largest market sending visitors with 844,000 arrivals (accounting for 27.7%), China ranked 2nd, reaching 538,000 arrivals, Taiwan (China) ranked 3rd (198,000 arrivals), followed by the US (156,000 arrivals). In the top 10 largest markets of Vietnam tourism, the Chinese market has a very impressive recovery, 7.5 times higher than the same period in 2023. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the excitement of tourism activities and the results of welcoming international visitors in the first 2 months of 2024 show a very positive recovery of Vietnam's tourism industry.
