In order to sustainably exploit the export market to China, Quang Ninh province has been promoting access, trade and strengthening trade promotion activities, creating all favorable conditions for enterprises to carry out import-export activities through border gates in the province. Thereby, many potential products have been exported to the Chinese market, contributing to strengthening import-export cooperation, gradually forming a sustainable trade service chain.
In 2024, Vietnam and China are working with ASEAN countries to promote negotiations to upgrade the ASEAN-China FTA to version 3.0, thereby opening up more economic and trade opportunities for countries in the region in general and the two countries in particular. In particular, China has always been Vietnam's largest trading partner with bilateral trade growth momentum, which has been at double digits in the past 10 years. In the first 9 months of 2024, bilateral import-export turnover reached 148.6 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported goods to China at 43.6 billion USD, up 1% over the same period; imports from China reached 105 billion USD, up 32.5%. From now until the end of 2024, with the strong improvement in trade momentum in the first half of the year, it is forecasted that Vietnam-China import-export turnover may approach the 200 billion USD mark.
In Quang Ninh, promoting exports to the potential Chinese market is being actively promoted with many effective activities. Notably, Quang Ninh province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have strengthened their work in many fields, including trade activities, promoting regional connectivity and goods exchange between the two sides. Accordingly, the two provinces and regions continue to effectively operate the Mong Cai (Vietnam) - Dongxing (China) international border gate, the pair of bilateral border gates Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) including the Bac Phong Sinh (Vietnam) - Ly Hoa (China) customs clearance; soon restore customs clearance activities for goods at Ka Long (Mong Cai, Vietnam) - Dongxing Border Wharf (China); actively coordinate to deploy the pilot construction of a cross-border economic cooperation zone.
At the same time, the two sides coordinated to implement measures to facilitate customs clearance, promote investment, trade, import and export cooperation between the two sides, prioritize fast customs clearance, and advance customs clearance for Vietnam's export goods to China, including agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products... Continue to coordinate to report to competent authorities of the two countries on the construction of cross-border works - Bac Luan Bridge III and opening of Bac Luan Bridge III customs clearance at Mong Cai - Dong Hung International Border Gate, Mong Cai - Dong Hung International Railway Border Gate, construction of cross-border works at the temporary pontoon bridge opening at Km3+4 and upgrading the opening at Km3+4 and Ka Long border gate into bilateral border gates.
Along with the effective implementation of cooperation activities, Quang Ninh province continues to promote trade to the Chinese market through the Vietnam - China international trade fair; China - ASEAN fair (CAEXPO)... Many 3-5 star OCOP products of the province have been introduced and displayed at the fairs such as: Ba Che golden flower tea; Quy Hoa golden flower tea (Hai Ha); oyster floss, shrimp floss... (BAVABI); Yen Tu plum wine; Binh Lieu dong vermicelli...
Through the fairs, the province's enterprises have also been able to access and promote their products in the Chinese market. According to the representative of Quang Ninh Seafood Production & Trading Company Limited (BAVABI), China is a very potential export market with many products from Quang Ninh. At the end of September 2024, participating in the CAEXPO Fair, we had the opportunity to introduce the company's products to Chinese people and businesses such as: Oyster floss, shrimp floss, dried oysters, oyster starch, oyster sauce, oyster crackers... The company's products have received the attention of many customers. We will continue to invest, upgrade production lines and research more products to meet consumer and export tastes. Hopefully, there will be more trade promotion programs like this so that our businesses have the opportunity to introduce products and seek opportunities to expand the market.
According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade, from January 1 to September 30, 2024, the import-export turnover with China reached 3.52 billion USD, an increase of 23% over the same period in 2023. Of which, export turnover reached 1.52 billion USD; import turnover reached 1.63 billion USD; border resident exchange activities reached 0.37 billion USD. Main export items: Wood chips, coal, agriculture, forestry, fishery products...; Main import items: Machinery, equipment, garment fabrics, groceries, processing materials.
Mr. Le Hong Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: To continue promoting trade into the potential Chinese market, in the coming time, the unit will increase exchanges and work with Chinese agents and businesses who want to learn about typical products and tourism services of Quang Ninh to guide businesses in working and signing cooperation agreements. Promote the professionalization, standardization and branding of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products. Encourage businesses in the province to increase information sharing on needs and potential to promote import and export activities. At the same time, coordinate with functional forces to actively promote "hard connections" between the two countries on highways, border gate infrastructure; upgrade "soft connections" on smart customs, smart border gates to facilitate and further enhance trade exchanges with China.
