In 2023, the story of bumper crops and low prices of agricultural and aquatic products in the Central Highlands region continues to be a hot topic reported by the media.
After the news of durian, dragon fruit, and pumpkin being unsold, there was news of traders temporarily stopping buying lobsters in the South Central provinces.
In Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces, the output of spiny lobster accounts for about 20% of the total lobster output of all kinds, with about 600 tons per crop. In Khanh Hoa alone, currently, spiny lobsters that have reached harvest size of 0.7 kg/each or more have an inventory of about 200 tons, of which about 70 tons are grade 1 lobsters. Sadly, spiny lobsters have reached the point of sale, but traders have stopped purchasing.
The reason is explained that China is restricting the unofficial import of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, including lobster.
To avoid being passive in lobster export, the main issue is to increase official export to the foreign market. But the current difficulty is that shrimp farmers only know how to focus on farming. Traders only know how to buy lobsters to resell to businesses before exporting them to China.
The connection between the above mentioned chains is fragile, with little binding. If any link in the above mentioned chain breaks, immediately, the price of lobsters will fall miserably…
Many experts also believe that while farmers and businesses passively wait for support from state management agencies, they themselves must change by improving product quality, innovating production processes and finding official export markets.
One of the famous brands in Khanh Hoa in recent years that has had a "golden ticket" to officially export to the US and Japanese markets is seaweed.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy - Director of D&T Import-Export Production Trading Company Limited, said that over the years, the enterprise has had to mobilize and continuously change the technology of processing seaweed to create a chain of links with people to transfer technology.
After building and shaping the domestic seaweed brand, Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy began to focus on finding export opportunities to international markets.
Wanting to export to demanding markets like the US and Japan, Mr. Duy said that besides legal barriers, technical regulations and environmental indicators are always required by the host country for Vietnamese businesses to put first.
Along with seaweed, the official export of bird's nest has recently been focused on by businesses in Khanh Hoa province.
Typically, at the end of November 2023, Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Beverage Joint Stock Company officially exported bird's nest to the Chinese market. To obtain a license to enter the Chinese market, this enterprise coordinated with central and local ministries and branches to complete the necessary legal procedures.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan - Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that the approval of the General Department of Customs of China to import 2 types of pure bird's nest products and post-processed products has affirmed the quality as well as the brand of Khanh Hoa bird's nest products in the world market.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan expects that in 2024 and 2025, Khanh Hoa province's bird's nest brand will reach the export milestone of 1 billion USD.
