From fragrant rice to fresh fruit, from high-quality seafood to drinks with rich Vietnamese flavors, Vietnamese agricultural products, food and beverages are increasingly asserting their position on the world map. In 2024, the export turnover of this industry will achieve impressive growth, opening up many new opportunities for Vietnamese businesses.

2024 will witness a strong breakthrough in Vietnam's agricultural sector. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the total export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products last year reached 60.68 billion USD, an increase of 18.9% compared to 2023. Of which, agricultural products reached 32.8 billion USD (up 22.4%), aquatic products reached 10.07 billion USD (up 12.2%), forestry products reached 17.28 billion USD (up 19.4%) and livestock products reached 533.6 million USD (up 6.5%).
Asia continued to be the main export market, accounting for 48.2% of the market share. However, other markets also recorded impressive growth: America increased by 23.6%, Europe increased by 30.4%, Africa increased by 4.4% and Oceania increased by 13.9%. The United States and China remained the two largest markets for Vietnamese agricultural products, accounting for 21.7% and 21.6% of the market share, respectively. Notably, exports to the United States increased strongly by 24.6%, while exports to China increased by 11%. Japan ranked third with 6.6% of the market share.
Not only agricultural products, Vietnam's food and beverage industry also recorded positive signals. Total export turnover of seafood, vegetables, coffee, rice and cashew nuts all exceeded the 2 billion USD mark in just the first 8 months of 2024.
According to Euromonitor International, alcohol sales in Asia will increase by 8% by 2028, reaching 92.4 billion liters. Vietnam is forecast to have the highest growth in alcohol consumption in the region, nearly 50%, from 4.3 billion liters to 6.5 billion liters in 2028.
To achieve these achievements, Vietnamese enterprises have constantly strived to improve product quality, meeting the strict standards of the international market. They have invested in technology, production processes, researched consumer tastes and focused on factors of sustainability, health safety and social responsibility.
As a result, many Vietnamese agricultural, food and beverage products have affirmed their position in the international market. Lychee is popular in Japan, durian is exported to China, high-quality fragrant rice is gradually replacing low-quality rice, and Dai Thom 8, OM 18 and ST rice are highly appreciated in the international market.
