According to Digitaltrends , this move surprised many people, especially when the MacBook Air M2 was announced more than a year ago, at the developer conference - WWDC 2022. Although it is still a great product, many people really want a change. So "why hasn't Apple launched the MacBook Air M3 yet?" is certainly an interesting question that many users are interested in right now.
Apple used the MacBook Air to introduce the M1 and M2, but not the M3.
Analysts believe that a big reason for the delay is that Apple only launched the 15-inch MacBook Air in June, which was an M2 chip. Since the M3 is a much more powerful chip, it would be strange for Apple to put it in the 13-inch MacBook Air but leave the 15-inch model stuck with the M2.
It’s not hard to see how Apple might want to refresh these two laptops at the same time in the future, like it did with the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, so for now, the M3 chip is exclusive to the MacBook Pro models.
Reserving the M3 for the MacBook Pro also helps Apple better differentiate the Pro from the Air. The company announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with only the M3 inside to replace the old 13-inch MacBook Pro. If they were released at the same time, the performance difference between the MacBook Pro and the M3-powered Air would be negligible. Giving the MacBook Air M3 a few months to hit the market would help Apple’s MacBook Pro business.
