Reviewing the history of the industry, Ms. Quach Thi Thanh Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Soc Trang said that after 66 years of formation and development, the province's fisheries industry has affirmed its position, accounting for more than 80% of the province's export turnover.
In particular, the fisheries economy has become an important sector contributing to the transformation of the agricultural and rural structure, participating in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and improving the lives of the community. A part of the population has risen to become rich and contributed greatly to maintaining security and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
Every year, the Soc Trang aquaculture industry releases about 2 million juveniles into the wild at Tran De estuary, contributing to the restoration, regeneration and development of aquatic resources.
The 2025 fishery resource restoration release ceremony is an opportunity for the fisheries sector and the locality to restore and regenerate aquatic resources. Thereby, encouraging, recognizing the aquaculture and fishing profession and the positive contribution of the fisheries sector to the local economy.
Currently, Soc Trang province has 804 registered fishing vessels with a total capacity of 208,733 horsepower. Of these, 342 are vessels of 15 meters or more, with a total capacity of 184,188 horsepower.
The number of workers participating in fishing activities is about 307,672 people, of which about 5,630 work directly at sea.
Seafood exploitation output from the beginning of 2025 to present is more than 14,000 tons, including more than 10,000 tons of marine exploitation and nearly 4,000 tons of inland exploitation.
