A group of Lao students studying at Quang Binh University showed off their skills in preparing Lao dishes at the 2025 Exam Consulting program, attracting the attention of many students.

Lao specialties and inspirational stories

On March 2, at Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted (Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh), the 2025 Exam Season Consulting program took place. Attending the program, a group of Lao students studying at Quang Binh University showed off their skills in preparing Lao specialties to serve 12th grade students, causing the Quang Binh University booth to be crowded with students.

Carefully mixing Lao fish sauce to complete the dish "tam mak houng" (papaya salad), a Lao specialty, Vilaysane Dodo (from the capital Vientiane, currently a 4th year student majoring in business administration at Quang Binh University) said that after 4 years of studying in Vietnam, Dodo could not remember the number of times she had prepared this "signature dish" to serve her Vietnamese friends. However, this was the first time Dodo and her Lao female students had prepared "tam mak houng" to serve 12th graders.

"When preparing Lao dishes to serve Vietnamese friends, my emotions welled up again. Because when sitting together enjoying the food, everyone will love each other more," Dodo confided.

According to a Lao male student, coming to the Exam Season Consulting and Lao Food Serving program, Dodo wants to inspire 12th grade students about the determination to pursue their passion, even though they are far from home, it is a new horizon with many differences and full of joy.

"Previously, at the age of 18, I was also hesitant about leaving my family to study in Vietnam. Looking back after 4 years, the decision to resolutely pursue my passion and pursue letters has never made me regret it. I will regret it if I don't have determination. Youth will pass by boringly if you don't make an effort to fulfill your dreams," Dodo said.

According to the student from the land of a million elephants, after a period of studying in Vietnam, Dodo now considers the S-shaped country his second home.

"During my time in Vietnam, I received a lot of love and help from my teachers and friends... In the future, I will look for a job to stay in Vietnam. I hope that in the future, there will be many job opportunities for Vietnamese people in Laos and vice versa. Through Lao specialties, I hope that the affection and friendship between the two countries and people will become better and better. The young generation will be the bridge for that strong friendship," Dodo confided.

Pursuing dreams in new horizons

Participating in a large-scale exam season consultation festival for the first time in Vietnam, Khounnolath Aliya (from Khammuan province, Laos), a student majoring in business administration at Quang Binh University, said he really enjoyed learning about training programs at colleges and universities even though he was already a student.

Recalling the day she left her hometown to study in a new land, Aliya felt like she was at a "crossroads" because at that time the 18-year-old girl still had many worries and confusion, but now it's different.

"I made a wise decision to come to a new land, Vietnam, to fulfill my dream of studying at a university far from home. Today, seeing students being provided with a lot of information, learning about careers directly at the booth... was really useful. Perhaps the dream of setting foot in a new land to fulfill my dream will originate from today, from this Exam Season Consulting program," Aliya said.

Enjoying the food prepared by Lao people, Khanh Hung (grade 12, Dao Duy Tu High School, Quang Binh) said that this was the first time he had enjoyed Lao food prepared by Lao people. "When I heard the stories of Lao students who are far away from home to pursue their passion, I felt more motivated to study and dreamed of going to a faraway country to study and seek new opportunities," Hung said.
