Candidates taking the competency assessment exam at Ho Chi Minh City National University this year

This morning (June 14), Ho Chi Minh City National University officially spoke out about the technical error in announcing the second round of competency assessment test scores. Accordingly, on the afternoon of June 13, based on the information reflecting the abnormality of the second round of competency assessment test results, the Standing Committee of the Examination Council conducted a comprehensive review of the processes from marking the test to announcing the results to candidates.

A technical error occurred while uploading exam results to the system.

The review results show that the exam marking process was carried out in accordance with regulations, ensuring accuracy and security at each stage, from scanning exam photos, processing exam photos to determine raw scores, converting scores using specialized software, reviewing, and reporting to the council before announcement. The work of storing exam photo data, raw scores, and exam results was strictly implemented, ready for review and inspection.

A technical error occurred during the process of uploading exam results to the system for announcement to candidates. Due to the lack of time synchronization between the two uploads of exam results to the system (the first upload of results of all exams that had not been updated with unusual cases, the second upload of results of exams that had been processed abnormally); therefore, from the afternoon of June 10 to the afternoon of June 12, some candidates received incomplete exam results. Currently, the results on the system are accurate and complete for all exams.

This unfortunate technical incident, although not affecting the candidates' exam results, has had a negative impact on their psychology, as well as made it difficult for candidates to use their competency assessment test results to register for admission.

Extended registration period from June 15 to June 21

To facilitate candidates, Ho Chi Minh City National University will extend the registration period for re-examination until June 17, and the re-examination scores will be announced before June 20. The registration period for admission based on the results of the capacity assessment will also be extended from June 15 to June 21.

Previously, on June 11, Thanh Nien Newspaper published an article "Ability assessment test: Studying block B, only getting 16/300 points in Natural Science, is it unreasonable?". The article recorded the opinions of many candidates about the "unreasonable" results in the capacity assessment test scores of Ho Chi Minh City National University, round 2 this year.

Many candidates, although taking the natural science exam and achieving high scores in the math-logic-data analysis section, only scored 16/300 points in the natural science section, meaning they only got 1-2/30 correct answers, according to teachers and candidates. Not to mention, Ho Chi Minh City National University also added 1 point to this question for all candidates due to a technical error. Immediately after receiving the second round of Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment test scores, about 1,000 candidates created a group on Zalo called 'Review of HCM City National University's capacity assessment test'.

Candidate taking the second round of the competency assessment test: 'I think my score this time will be very high'

Not only marking and announcing the results, the second round of this year's competency assessment exam also had errors related to the exam questions. Specifically, during the marking process, 2 technical errors were discovered in the second round of the exam questions. The Examination Council of the Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam decided to give full points for the 2 technically erroneous questions to all candidates who took the exam to ensure the rights of the candidates.

As of yesterday (June 13), according to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, many candidates who participated in the second round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, who only scored 16/300 points in the natural sciences section, unexpectedly said their scores had been corrected. Specifically, after 2 days of announcing the results, many candidates with 16/300 points in the natural sciences section discovered that their exam results had been changed. Some candidates increased their scores from 16 to 200 points (out of a maximum total score of 300). Notably, some of these candidates had not yet submitted their appeals.

On the morning of June 2, the second round of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University took place in 14 provinces and cities including Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Tien Giang, An Giang and Ca Mau with 34 exam clusters and 43 exam locations. This round of the exam attracted 39,034 candidates, with an average score of 725.8/1,200; 302 candidates scored over 1,000 points; the highest score was 1,116, the lowest was 289.
